Might be the most overrated BBQ joint in the city. Overpriced as hell. 1 appetizer, 4 beers, 4 entrees . . . $130. Sheesh.

Sauce was way too sweet. Joe's KC has a sweet sauce, but this is on a whole different level of sweet. The meat was good, but it's not BETTER than other meat in the city.

I mean, it's not BAD, but I don't understand the hype at all.

EDIT: Forgot to add that their french fries were bland as hell. Most fast food places have better fries. Although, I did like their slightly spicy ketchup. Fries still absolutely pale in comparison to Joe's, though.

Not even close. Their onion rings are dinky little shrimp-dicked things.

BRGR serves the best onion rings on the planet. Titans of crunch and flavor.

Bluestem
The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange
The American Restaurant
Justus Drugstore (well, its in Smithville, but still)
El Camino Real (unless you can get superb al pastor tacos with handmade to order tortillas where you live, then I would put Novel or Julian or Rye in the 5th spot.)

I really enjoyed Tannin Wine Bar, always love Bluestem and the Rieger Hotel, and though I have heard it can be a bit hit or miss, the three meals I have had at The Farmhouse were stellar.

Everyone I know loves Afarre, but I wasn't that excited by it. I will try again in case it was a fluke. It is the favorite restaurant of someone I know who generally has impeccable taste.

I'm actually craving BRGR now. I want to try their BLT, build your own mac and cheese and short rib tacos. I'm guessing their fish and chips out of this world, too.

Great milkshakes, too.

lol They aren't as big as BRGR but they aren't small either.

Ooooh, is that place less than a year old? I haven't been & I so want to now. Modern German is capable of some really neat food; I live a few blocks away from a restaurant called Brauhaus Schmitz, whose chef (Jeremy Nolan) literally wrote the book on modern German cuisine.

Whew, look at all this good eating in my home town. I have been wondering if Port Fonda was good. What do you recommend? Is there a specialty? I'm in town in a week for a few days.

Everything is good, but I highly recommend you start with the house made chips and salsa, definitely try the deep-fried quesadillas, and end with the mexican donuts and hot chocolate.

And don't go on Friday or Saturday night unless you have a reservation. And you probably need to make such a reservation 3 days in advance.

Yeah, we've got wonderful pastor, barbacoa, and carnitas tacos down here. My buddy opened up a shop adter we got out of the military. Super legit stuff. His wife though, she cooks us authentic mexican dishes when we go to their house. Unbelievable stuff. That woman is amazing in the kitchen.

Torta ahogada is one of my favorite sandwiches in the world and Port Fonda's is the best I've had, even over Bayless's Xoco.
