It might sound like a bizarre compliment, but often some of the poorest route runners are the guys who have the star potential. Natural talent and athletic advantage has afforded them the ability to be successful in spite of their lack of technical proficiency. Randy Moss never became a decent route runner because even at the highest level he was a genetic freak that virtually no one could shutdown. Randy was the only person that could prevent him from being a success. Point being, anyone can become a very good route runner if they dedicate to perfecting it. Jerry Rice had fairly average measurables from an athletic standpoint, but was probably the greatest route runner and technically proficient wr in NFL history.
