Looking for a quad cab pickup

I've spent the last 6 1/2 years getting the crap beat out of me by my rough riding Dakota and I don't really want another one.

I've seen a few Explorer Sport Tracs that are reasonably priced, but I'm worried that they're cheap for a reason. I know the Explorers of the 90s were garbage.

I do like the Chevy Colorados but the resale on them is ridiculous. Hell I may as well buy a Toyota for what they're going for. And they have a 5 cyl...wtf?

Anybody have any experiences with either of these?

To be honest I'd go with a Toyota. Great truck. They run good, easy to repair. And they have bolt on bedsides. What else could you ask for!
I'm not a Toyota guy, but lots of guys are.

I would second the aluminum body. It would cost a mountain of money for repair if you smoke off a deer. I'd sure look into what collision would cost.

Cant believe I missed this thread. Im not going to read through it to catch up, instead Ill just reply to OP.

Trucks are as high right now as they have ever been. People need them, so the value stays high.

The chevy 5 clinder is one of the biggest POS motors of all time.

Buy a Ford. From me

Oh god.

The new Ford does not have a ****ing aluminum frame!

It has a all HIGH STRENGTH STEEL FRAME. More high strength steel than ANY competitor. The aluminum body panels on the truck are more resistant to impact than the old steel ones.

Cmon people!

My old one had a 5.3, and this one is way faster.

EDIT: Parking lots with tiny assed spaces are kind of a pain, but it is a negligible increase in PIA from a compact.
My 2003 F150 has a 4.6L V8 and that is plenty of power.

The 2.7l turbocharged v6 in a crew cab 4x4 gets you 23.

It can also tow 8500 pounds. Thats about the same as a ram with a hemi. Those springs arent good for towing, and you really arent picking up anything in the ride from a properly set up leaf spring truck.

There is no reason.

the new F150 is improved in every way from the old, which was already the best truck on the road.

And that's why someday when I decide to upgrade, it will be another F150. But mine only has a little over 100k.

I've had a 2010 Ram and now a 2013 Ram. Both have been solid. I like them a lot. Ride is nicer compared to my friend's F150.

I was in the market for a new truck 3 years ago. I drove everything before deciding. The ram drove the nicest and was the cheapest for the options I wanted. I was alittle skeptical to buy one cus of all the transmission nightmares id hear of with chrysler. But once Ram spun off into its own company in 09 they really tried to step the game up and produce quality shit. I ended up buying a 12' ram 1500 quad cab hemi 4x4. love it. ive got close to 55k miles on it now and I havent had a single problem yet. I dont think you can really go wrong with any of the trucks now a days its really just personal preference. I dont think i'll ever buy anything but a ram or ford though. If i wanted a mid size truck i would buy a tacoma without hesitation though

Small truck I would wait a little bit and get a new GMC Canyon with the diesel or the Colorado with the diesel

Full size either a new Ram with the diesel or just go with a Ford

I love LOVE my F-150. Well technically it's my wife's because I'm a huge pussy and she beats me so she stole it. In either event, it has more bells/whistles than you'll ever need (again, because she beats me).

Here's the key takeaway from a half-ton vs. a light truck - it's durability and longevity. As has already been noted, the resale value on pickup trucks has become absolutely ridiculous so even a used truck is obscene. So really, you want to buy one of these things expecting to get 10 yrs out of it to get your value from the vehicle.

Well think about it - a half-ton truck is built to handle heavy towing and substantial payloads. It's built to be beat up pretty badly. Well if you take a truck like that and drive it on highways or use it for the occasional camping trip, you're going to be driving it well below it's threshhold for abuse. When you have a vehicle that overbuilt for the purpose you're using it for, it will last forever.

If you buy a Colorado, it will likely have the reliability and lifespan of a similarly mid-scale domestic sedan; in other words, pretty mediocre. Whereas if you splurge a little bit on a half-ton truck, it'll be so undertaxed that you'll be able to drive the thing to 200K miles with little more than routine maintenance.

As for tips - if ride quality is your primary consideration, our Platinum Quad rides like a truck. That's not a good thing, nor is it a bad thing. You feel more bumps in it than you're going to feel in a sedan because with tow/haul packages and such, those stiff springs put it in your ass. I generally enjoy the feel because you feel in command and you get a lot of good feedback with the road. To me the feel is a positive one but for many it wouldn't be. The bottom line is that you'll just want to drive them and you'll get a pretty good idea what you prefer pretty quickly.
