****Official Houston Astros @ Kansas City Royals ALDS Game 1 Thread****

Game 1 SP: Collin McHugh vs Yordano Ventura

6:37pm cst @ Kauffman Stadium

TV: FSN1

It's finally game day, man what a long week. Time for the good guys in blue to put up or shut up. Put the Sept month behind them, eveything's led up to this point and anything less than a WS will be considered a disappointment. Personally I hope to eventually see a I-70 WS. GO ROYALS!!!

To some extent, I can see some battered woman syndrome with as many Chiefs/Mizzou fans and 30 years of Royals suck... but, I don't know how anyone could watch the Royals for the past year and a half and continue to say "game over" every time they go down a run or three. I guess it's the cool thing to do though. At some point, like sometime last August or September after their umpteenth comeback victory or maybe that slightly crazy WC game or the rest of the playoffs/WS or the past 162 games as a whole....
I don't get it either. And this time is was coming from some posters I really didn't expect it to come from. Baseball is crazy and if any team can get down and come back it's the Royals. They never seem to change their game no matter what the score.

I've watched nearly all 162 games in 2015 and this is a different team than 2014, IMO.

Small ball and manufacturing runs has been minimized.

The team also lost their sense of urgency in Septmeber. They seemed to "wake up" today but only time will tell.

Small ball is for the inferior league. The Royals did not play small ball all year in 2015. It resulted in more runs scored and more wins than in any season, sans '77 and '80.

This entire "sense of urgency" thing... So they had a poor September. That's not why they lost game 1. It's not why they won game 2. I suppose it gives people something, however intangible, a feeling of understanding.

Are you actually calling the National League inferior? Ive been an Astros fan my whole life and have seen tons of National League games and IMO MUCH more strategy is involved in the National League than the American League. The AL is lame by comparison. Put a bat in the pitcher's hand and a whole new level of baseball is played. One that requires far more skill, especially from a managerial perspective.

A whole new level!!! I love it when morons tell me that.

It's not strategic. It's boring. I can understand why it makes you feel that way though. I mean, it was cool watching deGrom and Lackey and CK act like players yesterday.

The double switch thing.
Things like bunting with runners on first and second with one out (MIND BLOWN when they did that last night!!!).

That's like saying you'd rather have Alex Smith at quarterback than Peyton Manning in his prime because there's more strategy involved and it takes the game to a whole new level.

And the Royals won their last five and swept a team that was still playing for a WC spot... it's not like it takes a whole month of playing well to get the required level of momentum. Go back to mid-September of last year where they lost 3 of 4 to Boston and 4 of 6 to Detroit.

They're no longer 'just happy to be there', while the Astros are that team... so, maybe it took ~14 innings for them to loosen up, or maybe baseball happened. Between all the road wins so far, Detroit and Baltimore last season, baseball seems to happen quite a bit.

Only managerial wizardry can aptly describe the double switch.

Just look at interleague head-to-head records just about every year and you'll see which league is superior.

I don't think the NL is inferior. But I do like to point out that having the pitcher bat, and PH'ing or double switch-ing is not like discovering cold fusion.

NL baseball! Such a great product to watch!

I love the days when Perez is resting. The sheer strategy of watching Drew Butera hack like a reerun at the plate is so intriguing!
