NFL source: Chiefs facing "abyss"

http://www.kctv5.com/story/30243233/...s-facing-abyss

Quote:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

As bad as the first five weeks have been for the Chiefs, it could get a lot worse.

That is the verdict of one long-time NFL executive.

"I don't have to be there to know how bad it is inside their offices and locker room," he said. "When you lose a game like Sunday's loss to the Bears, there's a real hangover."

That makes sense, KC blew a 17-3 lead against a poor Chicago team to fall to 1-4 on the season. Two of those losses came at home, and they were in games that the Chiefs seemed to have in hand. Offensive mistakes and poor defense fueled the defeats.

But, as bad as that is, it could lead to bigger problems.

"The concern for Andy is that the guys stop buying in," he told KCTV5. "If they stop listening to coaches, or start pointing fingers at each other, this could really get ugly."

The long-time exec has always been a big fan of Chiefs coach Andy Reid, but he said Reid is in a dangerous situation.

"I think the players respect Andy," he said, "But if the owner undermines him in any way, that could change. It could really implode."

Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt personally selected his head coach and general manager John Dorsey, so it would appear highly unlikely that he would do or say anything to put the leaders of his franchise in a bad light. Even when faced with firing former GMs Carl Peterson and Scott Pioli, Hunt did nothing in advance to put his GMs in a bad position.

The NFL executive told KCTV5 that he is also worried about the Chiefs quarterback.

"Alex Smith has been left 'naked,'" he said, "First, he had no offensive line and now he loses the main component of his running game. Good luck with that."

He said the loss of running back Jamaal Charles will make Reid's game-planning and play calling job a lot harder, and that an already weak Chiefs offense will have an even harder time moving forward.

He also said the problems extend to the defense.

"I think (Chiefs defensive coordinator) Bob Sutton's in trouble." he said. "I really like Bob, but that defense should be better."

The veteran exec has faced these kinds of issues himself, and he says he "feels for those guys." "I hope they get it fixed," he said.

So do the millions of Chiefs fans worldwide.

KC will play at Minnesota this Sunday. A game you can see right here on KCTV5. Kick off's at noon.

Ditto. We win that game, we could have won the division. Now, we are the second pick in the draft

and NFL-PLEASE quit putting us on Thursday and Monday night games.
We don't deserve it and we need a full week to prepare.

I'm open to drafting a QB in any round. High 1st round does not always lead to success. Find the right QB and develop him.

I think Reid needs a full month to prepare.

Last year, beating NE and Seattle, Andy probably started preparing when the schedule came out.

This franchise isn't going to tear down and rebuild after one bad season.

*insert HA GAYYYYYYYYYY.gif*

But he shoulders some blame. Just about every pick in 2013 was a whif aside from Kelce. 2014 isn't looking too good either with Thomas' upside being a punt returning gadget player.

Spoiler alert: he doesn't.

He's R-Kal Truluck. He's got a brilliant first step and that's ****ing it.

Chiefs are lucky the Royals just pulled off another comeback and put the city all back in a Royal frenzy. You can tell on this board, its ones who live away from Kansas City that is all about the Chiefs suck. Rest of the city and sports media are in a Royals frenzy once again.

On the other hand, Bob Sutton absolutely SHOULD be afraid for his job.
I think Petro said it best today. Andy is going anywhere till the end of next season barring health issues or a absolute complete meltdown. What we can hope for is that Reid and company come to realize that Alex is never going to hoist a Lombardi and give booger then Murray a shot to see what they have for the future.

I think that will NEVER happen but in our case that is best case scenario.

He said the loss of running back Jamaal Charles will make Reid's game-planning and play calling job a lot harder, and that an already weak Chiefs offense will have an even harder time moving forward.

Really, loses, what 15 plays he called a game?

ain't like the chiefs wiil get any worse
I think Green Bay broke the team
Rodgers coasted through that game
and smoked them hard

the coaching staff said well shit happens
