Best BBQ Picnic? Really? I've been to Woodyard so I'm sure they're talking about the excursion and not the cut.

It's a blend of provolone, swiss and cheddar. I think it's a pizza topping, but I'm not sure.

I can vouch for the wings selection. BLVD Tavern has the best damned wings I've ever tasted. Twice fried, and dipped in a korean sauce that tastes like some combo of soy sauce, sriracha, fish sauce, and who knows what else. They come with four and they are huge. It's an appetizer, but two of them would be a very large meal. One of the best things I've ever eaten.

LOL at the reader's choices. EVERY BBQ category is Joe's KC, best breakfast was at First Watch, and best burrito was Chipotle. Must've been overrun with mail-in votes from Johnson County.

It's an acquired taste. Closest I can describe, imagine if Velveeta was mozzarella. Or maybe a mozzarella brie.

It's interesting, as it will brown on top, but is very creamy right underneath.

Those less enamored of it compare it to snot.

I would take issue with it being prevalent everywhere, mostly Imos, and a few other 'St. Louis style' pizza places. Some [notably The Pasta HOuse] grate it over salads, but then, in chilled form, it's nearly indistinguishable from mozzarella

On Imos, the sauce and provel meld into a tomato cheese ooze.

I'm pretty sure nobody in Johnson County reads that liberal rag, much less waste time to vote.

Nothing wrong thinking Joe's KC has the best overall BBQ.

Breakfast is a ubiquitous category. Eggs, potatoes and a fatty meat are all that are needed. Hell, Denny's serves up a good breakfast. Easiest meal to make on any menu.

I go to El Pollo Rey in KCK for the best Mexican food. They don't serve burritos, tacos or queso fresco... just damned fine old-school Mexican food.

Magazines and newspapers do the best of about everything category so they can sell advertising space to all the different restaurants.

I love me some Joe's KC, but there are a lot of other places with good 'Q. Seems kind of close-minded to pencil in one place for every category. That's my only point.

Tastes like snot IMHO. The only people I've known who like it were raised in STL.

I understand. Most people don't have time to drive all over the KC metro for this Q or that Q . Find a good spot and you're good. I'm sure there's some dude in Belton that cooks up some good beans and brisket. We aren't driving there.

I'd disagree, but only after spending several years with a woman who LOVES good breakfast. Denny's/First Watch don't touch the lemon ricotta pancakes at Westport Café, the breakfast sandwich at Happy Gillis, the cornmeal pancakes at YJ's Snack Bar, the grits at Genesee Royale, or the salmon BLT at Californo's (brunch but still fantastic). Corner Restaurant, You Say Tomato, and Succotash all blow away First Watch and Le Peep when it comes to overall menus.
