Report: 'Multiple teams' to inquire with Saints about trading Sean Payton

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-...ng-sean-payton

The Miami Dolphins are expected to make a "splash" move this offseason when it comes to finding a new coach. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported Sunday morning owner Stephen Ross might be interested in chasing Saints coach Sean Payton via trade (or if he hits the market).

THE LATEST FROM SPORTSLINE
Week 5 NFL Picks
Ross and the Dolphins might not be alone: according to Adam Schefter of ESPN, "multiple teams" are expected to inquire about Payton's availability after the season ends.

The Dolphins are a lock to put out at least a feeler here. As La Canfora noted, Bill Parcells still has the ear of Ross and Payton is a Parcells guy. Giving up some picks to get a coach would net the Saints additional chips in attempting what needs to become a full-blown rebuild.

The Colts are an interesting option here if Chuck Pagano doesn't return in 2016. Getting an offensive guru like Payton to work with Andrew Luck would be a bold move, something Ryan Grigson hasn't shied away from.

How about the Giants? Tom Coughlin isn't exactly young. A playoff berth would guarantee him a chance to return in 2016 if he wanted but there's a chance this position is open next year.

The 49ers could be desperate enough if this season goes south to make an aggressive play for an aggressive coach who could potentially fix Colin Kaepernick.

Bottom line is Payton has a Lombardi Trophy to his name. If a Super Bowl-winning coach comes on the market, teams will be interested.

And rightfully so.

Payton is one of the most overrated coaches in football, IMO.

If it weren't for a defense getting crazy regular and postseason turnover numbers, he wouldn't have ever done anything...and he's had a HOF QB for a very long time.

Agreed. And I don't want another Old Boy coach. Enough.

I'd rather not have a coach that picks Rob Ryan as his DC.
