He's stated it publicly. But that realistically means a few million less per year than a major deal from another club. Not some shitty short term contract that doesn't guarantee him money when he's 35+ years old. Alex isn't reeruned and no athlete is that dedicated to a city or team.

Exactly. Hometown discount doesn't mean getting insulted. It just means whatever the market turns out to be and what he can get, if we get close he will sign here. As long as it doesn't go completely bananas we should be in striking distance.
