I don't know where you got the idea that he wasn't a billionaire but it's been well know since he became the Royals chairman after the death of Ewing Kaufman.

I've heard many sports writers speculate at his net worth, and they all pretty much say $600 million to a billion is their estimate. He's not a multibillionaire. The Royals likely make up half his net worth.

There is a 0% chance that he was a billionaire when he bought the team...not even close.
