Disney CEO Robert Iger joins Chargers, Raiders L.A. stadium project
I think this gives the chance of a new stadium and a team in L.A. a big shot in the arm. This guy is a player and big time deal maker. He has a LOT of pull.
I give it an 80% chance of success =================================== http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-sh...152011737.html The San Diego Chargers' and Oakland Raiders' plan to become the teams that move to Los Angeles received a big boost Wednesday when Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger agreed to oversee their bid to build a stadium. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora and Sports Business Journal's Daniel Kaplan reported the agreement early Wednesday morning, and it was confirmed later in the day. Citing sources, La Canfora wrote that Iger will become chairman of the teams' bid to build a stadium in Carson, Calif., and the move could propel the Chargers and Raiders to begin play in the Los Angeles market as early as the 2016 season. Chargers and Raiders executives, along with execs from other NFL clubs, are in New York for a "significant" meeting with NFL officials on Wednesday. Iger will remain as Disney's chairman and CEO, but will also become the non-executive chairman of Carson Holdings, LLC, and oversee all major initiatives with the venture, including stadium design and naming rights as well as fan experience. Iger will also be responsible for guiding construction and operation of the stadium. His deal is contingent on NFL owners approving the Carson stadium plan for construction. Iger's contract with Disney runs through 2018, and his deal with the Chargers and Raiders stipulates that his duties with Carson Holdings do not in any way conflict with his responsibilities with Disney; to that end, he will hire a president for Carson Holdings, with that person taking on a substantial role. Iger could also become a minority owner of the Chargers or Raiders once he retires from Disney. Representatives from the Chargers, Raiders and Rams are in New York to present before the league's Committee on Los Angeles Opportunities at the league offices. Owners are expected to vote on the Los Angeles plans in January. |

Don't get why the Chargers would be the choice to move. Lose one huge market to pick up another. Oakland makes more sense.

Even with the addition of Iger, Carson is a long shot, IMO. I had heard yesterday that the chances of the Chargers and Rams in Inglewood, with the Raiders in San Diego, is more feasible than three teams in Los Angeles. |

But both the Raiders and Rams have much larger fan bases in L.A, but have less representation in everything south of L.A. And there's no way that they move 3 teams into the SoCal market. It'd be over saturated and from a business standpoint, would serve no purpose.

From my understanding, it would be built on the same site in Mission Valley as Qualcomm and the Spanos family will only consider staying if the stadium is built downtown. |

Remember, San Diego wants to build a stadium. It's the Chargers that just don't want to be here. And the Raider fan base is thick through out all of SoCal, and many Charger fans are really SAN DIEGO fans. While some would certainly be sick to their stomach, many more would simply be happy to have an NFL team in their city. And should we get into the product on the field? The teams are trending in opposite directions at the moment.

Such a circus. Really seems to me like all three of those teams should stay put and have the Jaguars move and rename.

I say Rams and Chargers will share a stadium.
San Diego becomes the new boogeyman to get cities to use taxpayer money to fund stadiums. |
