Seriously. Hopefully he's just doing due diligence before going in-house.

And I'm not normally a fan of in-house hires, but in this case everything I've read about Odom impresses me. Him being a Mizzou guy actually has little or nothing to do with it.

Even interviewing Mike Bobo makes me wonder if Rhodes hasn't just gotten lucky with coaching hires in the past. That's...sheesh.

At what point is 'due diligence' just jerking off?

For ****'s sake, if you can't get someone that's clearly better than Odom (and Wells, Rhule, Campbell, Dykes and Bobo most assuredly are not that), then just hire Odom.

I understand wanting to take a run at Herman, Richt or even Fuente, but why are you interviewing the rest of these !@#$ing clowns?

Unless Odom has flat out told Rhoades that he will not accept the Memphis offer before he knows for sure about Mizzou, then Rhoades is playing with fire here and he's doing so stupidly.

**** it just hire Joey Freshwater at this point.

I'd say by this point they are certainly going with Odom. The job is toxic right now, so they've got to roll the dice.

Hearing some Larry Fedora rumors. This is a guy who would make Rhoades' actions this week (Which I think have been consistent with a guy throwing up a smoke screen) make a lot of sense.

IF Rhoades is throwing up a smoke screen, it's for a guy who is coaching in a championship game on Sunday, who doesn't want to distract his players with talks of him leaving (And also gives Rhoades cover in keeping the coach's current admin in the dark).

I think Fedora would be a slam-dunk hire. It's been reported that the NCAA issues at UNC were for a time period before he arrived, and if that's the case, he doesn't bring any NCAA stink with him. That's the only major potential drawback, IMO.

Pros:
Experienced in Power 5 league, high level of success. Has won everywhere he went, has made strong assistant hires and is part of a great coaching tree (Miles/Gundy). Has recruiting ties you'd like to see (Georgia, Florida, SE in general, Mississippi JUCOs).

I've long had an eye on Fedora, going back to his time at Southern Miss. He was one of the guys I wanted Mizzou to keep an eye on if it ousted Pinkel after 2013, had it not reversed the disaster of 2012.

Memphis has pulled the Odom offer and is going a different direction.

If Rhoades strung Odom along and cost the dude a shot at a HC gig, he's really being a monumental prick about this.

I still think this whole process is starting to have the same feel as the Todd Haley hire.

I don't think Memphis and Odom are dead. The columnist who broke that story immediately started backtracking from it. The tweet was much more strongly worded than his column about it.

I think that stuff is just normal negotiation tactics.

I'd be excited about Fedora or Herman, fine with Odom, and with just about everybody else mentioned. Wells, Dykes, etc. would be just like hiring Pinkel from Toledo all those years ago IMO. It may work out in the long run, but it wouldn't take Mizzou football to the "next level" anytime soon.

Why would Fedora want to come to Missouri? It's not a better job than UNC.

I wasn't really considering it until recently because I thought the same, but it recently was pointed out that:

1) He gets paid shit at UNC (annual salary of $2 million) and so do his assistants. Mizzou could double his salary and his assistant budget. Not sure UNC is willing to do that any time soon.

2) UNC may be about to get hammered again by the NCAA, apparently.

Those are the two big factors. It may all just be smoke, but Fedora is definitely a candidate it would make sense to throw up a smoke screen for (which is what the interview rush Rhoades has done comes across to me as).
