TWA Flight 800 - What really happened?
Lets hear the theories. Just watched a documentary on the subject. I have to admit I ws pretty ignorant of the whole situation. Seems like a lot of former NTSB and ATF investigators are upset they way the investigation was handled - that it was more of a FBI strong-arm investigation than it was a cooperative investigation.

Anyway what does CP say?

That could make sense. At least in how it could have happened by accident. Hard to believe a warship AA missle accidentally launched - but a drone prototype - something still not functioning correctly or operated correctly - that makes sense.

I watched this last night. Thanks for the post. Interesting for sure, but I'm not sold either way. I'd like to see something that was so slanted one way or the other.

Planes generally don't break apart in mid-air without some major structural damage or explosion. Even several bullet holes wouldn't compromise the integrity of the air frame other than the cabin losing air pressure.

Then it must of hit something rather large, something that caused an explosion or had some pretty bad air frame damage before take off that someone didn't notice.

Even striking something as big as a goose wouldn't cause an airplane to break apart in mid-air.

There is a documentary on Amazon about it. I wanted to post that but I can't find it on YouTube. They interviewed several investigators who participated in the investigation. Just sue arch for twa flight 800 if you have Amazon tv.

And ask yourself who was President at the time and could his ego handle this happening on his watch politically and emotionally to do the right thing telling us the truth ? I think not.

I'm pretty sure we accidentally messed up in a very big way. I read the same thing as you and the evidence supports our Navy screwing up regardless of the big kahuna coming out from the FBI saying it wasn't our military or terrorists. Pulling the "OZ" routine with "pay no attention to those actual many eye witnesses and pictures of a missile in the sky". Which is big tell for me.

My Father was a TWA maintenance inspector at the KC overhaul base. He was retired when this happened but I remember him saying it hat to be a bomb on board or it was hit by something. He said that airplanes just don't disintegrate in midair without something blowing it apart. I will say that TWA employees were fiercely loyal and prideful. They took it personally when something happened with one their airplanes. I remember it being a story for a couple weeks then just disappearing. But the nature of investigations are like that, we usually dont get the final report for years after the event. By then flight 800 is mushed together with other air disasters.
