Minus the screaming, Dane is right... His style of play puts Charles for eventual injury with his high volume of snaps and the type of stress he puts on his body.

Injuries for running backs isn't a matter of "if" it's a matter of "when". Charles' style of play puts him on pace for earlier retirement from your traditional RB

Look, I love Charles and think he's a top 3 RB in the league. I'm not sold by any means on trading him. But taking a quick look at last years playoff teams you can see that the trend is no longer to rely on a star RB. Of the 12 team in the playoffs last year only 2 (?) rely on their star RB.

Vikings*
Seahawks*

Broncos
Patriots
Steelers?
Bangles
Chiefs
Texans
Panthers
Cardinals
Packers
Redskins

Considering the above, and his injury history. You'd have to strongly consider a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him. We could spend his $6m contract value on a FA that can help (IDK... Nelson? Boldin?). Neither of those two guys is more valuable than Charles, but the combination of a vet FA + a 2nd or 3rd round rookie just might be.

...it's an interesting position to be in. Trent Richardson went for a 1st round pick to the colts.

If you don't think that Charles running style contributed to his injuries, then you're dumber than I could have imagined.

Charles' contract isn't holding this team back, and the Chiefs are better with him. I respect that they played well last year without him, but I'm not convinced they are better without him.
I've said it a countless number of times: If a team is willing to give up their #2 pick in the 2016 draft for a 29 year old running back with two ACL injuries, you take it everyday of the week.

Running backs in the NFL are a dime a dozen. Marshawn Lynch was traded for a 4th rounder. CJ Anderson was undrafted, as was Arian Foster. The Chiefs won 11 straight with two UDFA's.

I don't believe that any team is that desperate or dumb but good lord, take a #2 and draft a CB, Safety, WR or even a left guard.

In this day and age... premier RBs are a tad bit overrated. Especially when you consider the $.

It isn't about making a bust for West. It's about understanding the value of RB's vs. how efficiently they can be replaced compared to other positions. If the Chiefs can get something of value for him, they should do it. It isn't just about what Charles offers us this year, it's the big picture.

RB's can be replaced. It's no guarantee and it's not automatic, but West and Ware are good examples. Even your example of Davis makes the argument stronger. He isn't that good and even he was very productive for a while. You can work productivity out of RB's, you can't do that at a lot of other positions.

If we can free up a bit of cap flexibility, now and in the future, along with gaining an asset, I believe you do it most times with a RB. Now to Charles defense, his contract is very team friendly and I am not as afraid of his injuries as most. Still, I very much believe you let others pay for RB, and in the end you benefit from it.

You don't know what would have happened. The original comment was that Charles would have had the same season in NE. You don't know that he was going to be injured that same year, let alone that same part of the season. He could have been injuried earlier, later, or not at all. Whether his style leads to more injuries is a different argument entirely.

This is a basic concept. I'm shocked anyone has a hard time understanding it.

I'm not saying that he has no value to the Chiefs but in today's NFL, draft picks are treated like gold.

No team is giving up a 2nd round pick for any running back that's at the end of his career after sustaining two ACL injuries.

No, I doubt anyone is trading for him.
