IMO, the Chiefs should maximize his value and trade him to a team with extra picks in the 2017 draft like Tennessee or Cleveland, or to a team like the Giants and Cowboys that are looking to upgrade their secondary.

I think there's about a 1% chance Berry will re-sign with the Chiefs in 2017 because if he has a good season, he'll want even more money.

You're in a win now season. Tough to trade him for future picks at this point

I believe any team has a shot at him now for the cost of two first round picks since it's a non-exclusive franchise tag

The secondary wasn't a problem in 2014 when he exited due to the cancer diagnosis.

I like DJ's idea of rescinding the tag, which would free up $11 million to rollover into next year.

Also the 2014 season where our run D was bad was also because we lost devito and Derrick Johnson. I agree maybe berry wanted too much money we don't know we have a great D this year and we deal with what happens next year just that next year. Teams have negotiated during the season before. Maybe they are waiting to see what he does and then signing him.

Sure....but you're also losing Sean Smith, Abdullah and Branch. How's that secondary looking minus those guys and now Berry?

Because they played alot less aggressive in the secondary that year. They increases the amount if turnovers in 15 by a wide margin with him. Works both ways

Honestl, if they weren't getting a deal dine, tagging him was dumb. Should have used that money and kept smith and added another safety.

If you let him go niw, you're going unto a season with sorenson, parker, brown as your 3 starters with rookies and Fleming and Cooper behind thrm, with a rookie corner or 2 and a second year nickel with 29 snaps last year and gaines.

So we're purposely trying to self destruct?

You have a mostly young and inexperienced secondary with one of the leaders of the team gone.

The goal is to move forward in a win now season, not backwards.

I think Sean Smith is overrated and Branch & Abdullah were average players on prove it deals.

The Chiefs drafted and signed several secondary players and if those players can play at an average level, I don't think the secondary drops much.

On the flipside, the Chiefs, on paper, will have their most potent offense since 2003, which would change the need for the defense to be incredible in order for the Chiefs to win the division.

Lay off the Nitrous, doc. Berry will play the regular season barring injury.

I think the only reason they Franchised him this year was because they didn't want to lose him to a division rival.

Moving forward while having serious cap issues is a problem.

Personally, I don't see Berry being the difference between a Super Bowl run and an early exit. I also expect the young guys to ascend over the course of the season.

I assume that's the plan right now. They couldn't get a deal done with Berry....so they'll go this year and see how the young guys are. If they work out....then Berry will be gone next year. If not....then they'll have to decide how much they want to pay Berry.
