They have until the start of the regular season to rescind the tag? So why the big hurry to do it. Couldn't you just wait until the day before and not pay him a dime?

Fine.

Truth be told, I probably wouldn't engage with him at this point. If he wants to take things personally, fine - but he'd better be ready for others to reciprocate. He (if only through his representation) has pretty much been an obstinate shit throughout this process and IMO, he's overplayed his hand. Especially if he's also not going to sign the tender and report.

Let him walk.

Grunhard is on 810 talking about this right now. Saying he thinks Berry got his feelings hurt by how the Chiefs approached his contract, but says the Chiefs did the right thing.

They have until he signs the tender.

He could realize tomorrow 'oh shit....may have overplayed my hand here" and sign the tender. At that point, his deal is fully guaranteed and we're stuck.

I'd yank it before he gets it in his head to sign it.

I get it. I'd probably have some animosity if I were berry too.

But he asked for what he asked for. It is what it is at this point

And I don't think it'll happen. The Chiefs have to know that if they pull the tag....that they'll get roasted in the media. Yeah...we here probably don't care about it....but I'm sure they probably do.

I'd give him up until the regular season begins. If he doesn't want to sign it then let some other team try after the season already started.

Jesus...**** that.

Yeah, because guys that miss all of camp AND the pre-season have such sterling injury histories.

If the dude sits out, he's going to be about as effective as Fleming and at a low cost of $11 million.

No !@#$ing way. Paying the guy after he sits out would be an absolute disaster. Frankly, I think Berry knows it but he's trying to bait the Chiefs into pulling the tag so he can go get a deal.

But this is a game of chicken. If the Chiefs release him late enough, he's not going to have a bunch of teams that are after him because there's not enough time to integrate him into the defense. Moreover, their cap plans for the next year or two will be largely laid out.

If the Chiefs pull it now, he may still get a nice deal. Every week they get closer to the regular season, those chances diminish. I think he signs when camp ends because I don't think KC has the juevos to rescind the tag.

To everyone who thinks that Berry should have given the Chiefs a discount......

What kind of discount were you expecting to happen? $10 million a year? $8 million a year?

This is a cap league and performance relative to your paycheck is ENORMOUS. The Chiefs would've been better off over the last 6 years to NOT have Eric Berry and his contract on this team.

Doesn't that create an issue with the NFLPA?
