It's a low rent move by a guy that we were supposed to believe was better than that.
Pure speculation. It might be more likely, but you can't say that definitevly.

I agree dj. Hard to side with the guy making a Brinks load of cash skipping out on the hard work. Entitled overpaid primadonnas. Tougher to watch pro sports every year.

It's part of the game and the rules so it doesn't bother me at all.

But let's stop with the "He's a leader" and "The locker room isn't complete with out him" bullshit.

All 90 guys on the roster are fighting for their professional lives. They know what's at stake, regardless of Eric Berry's presence or absence.

It's not speculation to call skipping out on camp because you have a guaranteed $12 million fall back option (and couldn't be bothered to take less than that a year) a bush league move.

He should be here. He wasn't cheated, he wasn't low-balled. He was given a fair offer, he thinks he can do better and that's his right. It's also his goddamn job to be in here working with his teammates.

If you're not paying for intangibles, he's a box safety with average to slightly above average ball skills.

In other words, he's a $7-$8 million player.

And he's established that whatever intangibles he possesses, they aren't worth paying for if he's skipping practices the moment he is no longer the highest paid safety in football.

Until he signs the tender, it's not his job.

Which in and of itself is dumb

He's elected to not sign the tender.

So he's elected to not have a job, by your calculus.

It's still bullshit.

This is where we part ways.

The 'why' of it bothers me a great deal. He's not skipping camp to protect himself from injury this year; he's skipping camp to protect himself from injury for next year, at the cost of increasing the chances of injury this year.

If he signs the tender and gets hurt, no big deal; the tender is fully guaranteed. So he's not holding off on signing the tender because he doesn't want to risk the $12 million. Moreover, it's not because he's hoping that a deal can be worked out and he doesn't want to injure himself and put that in jeopardy - the negotiating period is over. What he gets this year is absolutely set in stone.

This is all about next year. A man that's been paid $60 million by this organization and due another $12 million is already looking down the road to the team that will be willing to give him another $30+ million a year from now and in so doing, he's telling this organization that he's unwilling to fully dedicate himself to this team because somebody else will pay him later.

**** him. That's horseshit and I don't see how that doesn't bother you.

Eh, it is what it is. I'll never fault a player for attempting to maximize his worth or what he feels he's worth, whether in like it or not.

Good to hear that Charles is back on the practice field even if it's limited.

He still shouldn't see the real field until the 3rd preseason game. A few snap in game 3 to shake the rust, then pull him.

We have plenty of RBs to take the snaps.

I will when he's looking down the road a full season.

That's absolutely something worth holding against a player. It's no different than when Deion Sanders talked about making a 'business decision' when it came to open-field tackling.

He's making decisions now that are active detriments to his current employer so that he can make more money with a future employer. I'll absolutely fault him for that.
