The rules say berry can do it this way, and it's his right. Honestly I don't really hold it against him.
I just want him in camp with all hands in deck so we can make the best effort we can at a SB |

A leader would have signed his tender and participated in training camp. Eh, he's a goner in 2017, anyway, so I'm happy that other guys are getting much needed reps and opportunities. |

I've had a HUGE problem (obviously) with him skipping camp because of it. He is the guy that elected not to sign a long-term deal and now he's staying home for a critical time when this team is ready to do huge things. So what is it, does his presence matter to this team or not? Because I'm supposed to believe that he's an inspirational leader and a teacher. He's a steadying veteran that was instrumental to the team staying steady last year. If that's the case, then his absence is doing a huge disservice to the team. And if it isn't, then what do I care if we let him walk? He's not a villain. Hell, he's probably worse than that; he's just another mercenary.

If you're facing 3rd and 18 down 3 scores late in the 4th of a 4-7 season, then no, I probably won't care that much. If you're nearing the goalline of a playoff game, I'm absolutely going to expect you to drop your shoulder and risk injury. Eric Berry is playing in (likely) his last season in KC for an organization that has stood behind him in the most trying times of his life. This is a team that could do potentially huge things and he could help in that endeavor by being a part of it. Instead he's sitting at home. Everything is context specific and the context here is huge. And yes, that includes the fact that a man that will have been paid around $70 million by this organization by the end of this season will reward being set for life by holding out so as not to risk a few million more. Just more context. Every single way to look at this is a bad look for Eric Berry and I'm not going to give him a pass because he seemed like a likeable guy. If this were Dwayne Bowe, folks would be eagerly telling him to get ****ed. But since it's a fan favorite, I'm supposed to just shrug it off? Pft....screw that.

no one asked you to believe anything ...and unless the player's themselves come out and say Berry has crossed some business/nfl line (which they wouldn't, because he obviously hasn't) then I'm not going to worry about it

It has everything to do with a supposed team leader taking his ball and going home because he's saving himself for his next employer. How is that 'making up' reasons to be angry? That's legitimate bullshit and you'd never stand for it in any other walk of life. It also has plenty to do with Berry the player being here and building a rapport with his teammates; many of whom are new to this system. We will be playing much different football in our secondary without Smith. He allowed us to do some unique things that an incredibly physical corner allows you to do. We don't have that so things are going to have to be done a little differently. All that will be determined by how the parts fit together and how they can interact together. But we won't know any of that because a key cog in the secondary won't get his ass into camp so we can find out. So hey, I guess we'll just find out when the bullets start flying in September, eh? Lots of margin for error in a 16 game season; no worries, EB...

When people start dropping "the rules say he can" and "it's a business" as the most simple, logical responses for his actions, what else are you supposed to conclude?

On the flip side, the chiefs front office were the ones that tagged him. They could have got a deal done, bot tagged him, or went this direction. Or pulled the tag I guess.
Seems to me both sides have some blame here |

How are they supposed to get a deal done when Berry has ridiculous demands? Just give in?

Berry's contract demands were astronomical for a box safety at $12 million per with $36 million guaranteed, especially when his cancer can return at any moment. The Chiefs also gave him the Franchise Tag, and once he signs, will be the highest paid safety in the NFL. Berry's response has been to sit out training camp and not sign the tender. The Chiefs can't be blamed for overpaying a player. |

They gave him the option to make 10 mil this year, guaranteed without going to camp is all I'm saying.
