It's a fair question for any star that is supposed to be the leader of the team. Looking back I kind of get the feeling that he never saw KC as home, and was always going to go to the highest bidder. Is that not exactly what he's doing now?

Is it not fair to expect the guy this team drafted and made the highest paid safety from day one to not be completely unreasonable with his second contract when he never really lived up to the first? I feel like some of you are missing the facts. He's been a dick about this. Plain and simple. When push came to shove the organization didn't make the "business decision". Why shouldn't we expect the family mentality to be reciprocal, or even appreciated/acknowledged?

Eric Berry clearly doesn't give a **** about the Chiefs. Guys like Charles and Hali do. It's dissapponting, but I still love him and I hope he gives us his best year yet before he goes elsewhere to get paid. My perception of him has quickly changed over this offseason though, and it's honestly not due to bias. I'm genuinely shocked at how he's handled things.

Why? Because I have an opinion you don't like nor agree with? Do you care to have an actual rebuttal? I'm open to a discussion. Please, tell me how I'm wrong.

Eric Berry being the only tagged player in the whole league sitting out isn't a good look.

I'd be willing to bet that he's gonna look back on this whole thing and wish he had told his agent to kick rocks and accepted KCs best offer.

Especially if the cancer returns before he gets a chance to sign a new deal.

Foles sure sounds rusty and didn't look terribly sharp in his pre-season game. Murray definitely out-shined him.

You could see the arm talent and even a little more athleticism than I expected, but his time in STL got him out of a workable groove and it may take a little more effort than I expected to get him back into a functional backup role.

It's astonishing to me how Stan Kroenke could wow the NFL owners with a beautiful and stunning stadium plan that ensured the NFL's return to Los Angeles, see 90,000 show up for a preseason game, yet allow Jeff Fisher to coach the #1 QB chosen in the 2016 draft.

There's also been talk of an extension for him.

Mind bottling.

Meanwhile Eric Berry, a sixth-year pro who served as one of the Chiefs’ emotional leaders following his return from Hodgkin lymphoma, is also set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Corry said the Chiefs have room to sign Hali, Johnson and Berry — who made his fourth Pro Bowl this year and should be looking to be paid somewhere in the neighborhood of the four-year, $40 million extension Seattle safety Earl Thomas received in 2014 or the five-year, $47.5 million contract New England safety Devin McCourty signed in 2015.

“After his surprisingly fast recovery where there hasn’t been a significant drop off in his play, he’s going to be looking to get paid at the top of the safety market,” Corry said.

Corry said the franchise tag for safeties this year (likely $10 million) is palatable — unlike the linebacker position for Johnson and Hali — which makes that a potential option in Berry’s case.

But Corry noted the Chiefs should still be motivated to get Berry signed because the first-year cap hit will be significantly lower than a franchise figure, which is a good sign considering Berry, when asked after the game if he’d like to return to the Chiefs, said he would.

“Obviously, this is family,” Berry said. “At the same time, we will sit down and talk about it when we talk about it, but right now I’m just thankful for my teammates, my coaches and everybody that has something to do with me being back on the field this year. This is something special. Like I said, we’ll talk about it.”

http://fansided.com/2016/07/09/eric-...dragging-feet/

Eric Berry and the Kansas City Chiefs are stalled in their contract negotiations, and the pro-bowl safety is surprised they aren’t further along.

The Kansas City Chiefs figure to challenge for the AFC West title in 2016, as they have one of the deeper rosters in the division. However, their Pro Bowl safety wants to stay with the team long-term, and does not understand why the organization has not locked him up.

Last week, Berry was given the franchise tag, and he will make over $10 million next year. That money is guaranteed, but Berry, who has played his entire career with the Chiefs, wants to be with team for the long haul.

“I thought it would progress a little bit more, but it’s still been pretty much the same since the last time we talked,” Berry said, via Herbie Teope of ChiefsDigest.com. “A lot can change in a week; a lot can change from whenever the deadline is.”

The deadline Berry is referring to is July 15, which is the last day that team’s can sign players designated under the franchise tag to multiyear deals.

It would make sense for the Chiefs to sign him to a long-term deal, not only because of his talent, but because they need the cap space. With his franchise tag money, the Chiefs only have $226,818 in cap space, so inking him to a multiyear deal would free up a ton of money. The two sides will obviously make it work, as Berry is a fan favorite around Arrowhead Stadium. He won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award last season, after batting back from Hodgkin lymphoma. He was also an All-Pro, and continues to be one of the best defensive backs in the game.

Sounds like it was the Chiefs that did not want to sign Berry to a long term deal NOT Berry being greedy.

Here is one article where Berry is THANKFUL to the Chiefs and his team mates. And another where he is surprised the Chiefs are low balling him.

What's really funny is the irony of the situation.

I've said that I still love Berry, and appreciate everything he's done, I'm just not going to ignore the facts. It's the Berry nuthuggers that can't possibly listen to some criticism of their cancer survivor hero that are acting like children. They're acting like I've called him the anti-Christ. Berry's handled the contract dispute like a dick. Why is that so wrong to say?
