So, the play to maclin, while ended with a good result, was kind of meh and a bit why smith struggles in the redzone. Missed kelce in the middle, then wilson in the endzone on the scramble.

Hopefully in the season he pulls the trigger on the throw to the te in the middle.

I mean, he hit maclin. Why couldn't he throe it 4 yards farther?

Edit: nevermind. He's coming too straight down the line to get his body around the throw. Would have been tough to get much on it. Probably a pick, good eye.

Not really.

Watch that play again - Look at where the middle linebacker is as Kelce's starting his cut. His first few strides after the break, that backer is there and could've easily dropped back to cut the ball off. It isn't until he sees the back in the flat that he vacates the zone and actually creates an opening for Smith to hit Kelce. Prior to the LB committing to the flat, Smith can absolutely not throw that football.

Now once that happens, he has about a half-second window. But as that's going on, look at the safety up on the goalline - he has Kelce locked in and lined up. Now, Smith could have still thrown that ball. And maybe Smith should have thrown that ball. But that's a definite maybe there; QBs that get their receivers destroyed over the middle aren't terribly popular. If he lets that ball fly, that safety is going to have 8 yards of targeted sprint directed right into Kelce's ribs as the ball gets there.

Like I said, it's big boy football, maybe he still throws it and tells Kelce to man up. But you could see him spot that safety and I don't think for a minute it was him looking to avoid the interception that led him to pulling it back down after he starts to throw; it was looking to avoid a decapitation. That's absolutely defensible.

As for Wilson, GTFOH. That throw would've been beyond stupid. You absolutely do not throw backwards across your body and late over the middle(ish) when you're down on the goalline. That's a throw that Jay Cutler makes 5 times out of 5, 1 of them is caught, 2 are deflected and 2 are picked off. It's a stupid, stupid decision.

He kept his TE from getting killed, scrambled to buy time and kept his head upfield the whole time until he spotted Maclin breaking the route and actually threw him open. There's nothing but positive things to take away from that play.

You're not serious here, are you? Maclin was in front of him and in the direction of his momentum. Wilson wasn't. At all. Legs/feet make the all the difference in the world on pretty much every throw a QB makes and his were in no way, shape or form in a position to make an accurate, assertive throw to Wilson there.

EDIT: I'm glad to see you aren't as dumb as I've always assumed you are.

Maclin was running parallel with Smith, while Wilson was running deep the other way.

You said so yourself, in the redzone, thems the windows you're getting. Look at Kelce's route. He sits it down nicely and actualky starts to feel the safety there, leaking back to the hole.

It's just fast and tight down there. That's actualky a pretty big opening and smith does a good job of moving that ml with his eyes on the back.

Against a fast defense like the seahawks, that's about what you're grtting down there.

****, I'm assuming that's earl thimas, dude breaks on Kelce's route then almost runs down the qb. ****.

O.City is "that guy" at the game sitting there bitching that he missed Wilson in the endzone on an impossible throw with defenders breathing down his neck while everybody else is cheering.

He can't lead kelce into the safety there for sure, it's gotta be low and away from the safety.

We were always preached to throe it low in the hashes in the redzone. I'm guessing that's why, I never really had a chance to see why because I was getting g ****ing demolished in the backfield due to our shit blocking.

See my edit.

I made my initial post after just watching the routes breakdown, quickly realizing my dumb****ery.
