One of the sportswriters I follow on Twitter recently said that the public has become numb to the fact that these guys have their bodies ripped open, have ligaments replaced or repaired and go through months, if not years, of recovery and rehab.

Yet the fans are at the point where they expect their favorite athlete to return quickly and play as if nothing happened. Sadly, this isn't always the case.

As I've mentioned several times, HGH testing has slowed recoveries to nearly a standstill. Charles is more than one year removed from his surgery yet he's clearly not 100% and at age 29, he most likely won't ever be the same player he was before this particular surgery. Fortunately, the Chiefs have players in Ware and West that take the sting out the loss of Charles.

Hopefully, Houston's recovery is without any speed bumps but considering that Phillip Gaines (age 25) is also having difficulty with his surgically repaired knee, it'll be surprising if he's able to step in and have the same kind of impact as he had in 2014 and 2015.

I'm not sure what to make of it really. Seems like a "we have guys that can play, so no reason to run him back out there" kind of thing to me.

Hopefully atleast I guess.

Considering he's had swelling in his surgically repaired knee while only taking a handful of snaps this season (along with being held out of practice this week), it appears to me as if it's much more serious than "not rushing him back into action".

Well, he was limited in practice so they atleast had him out there.

Swelling in a knee thats been repaired like that is pretty normal IIRC, just depends on where the swelling is coming from.

Something isn't right though or they'd have him out there.

I really think the turf is the deciding factor here; Swelling is normal, but why take a chance here. If he doesn't practice next week, or play next week then i would start to be concerned.

I wouldn't either.

I've expressed the desire to have him retire in KC so that would be awesome from a fan perspective. He's made a pretty good living in the NFL and, with a wife who lost a cousin to possible effects of CTE (as well as a friend for him), I wouldn't be surprised if his wife pushes him to retire.
