The smartest thing KC can do with Berry is transition tag him. See what he can get on the open market and decide to give him true market value or let him walk if it's too much...but that's fair to Berry and the team.

If KC franchise tags Berry, that 13m goes on the books -in full- the moment he's tagged. That would hurt a team that's so close to the cap, like KC.

It would severely limit what the team can do at other positions...especially if Berry sticks to his word and sits out.
