The Chiefs are giving Tardif a 5-year, 41 million dollar contract

WTF. He's average at best. What a waste of money.

Someday folks will learn that nothing matters until the structure is released.

Maybe.

Yeah, on it's face this does look ****ing nutty, but Dorsey's not an idiot - I suspect, like the Parker deal before it, that the structure will tell the tale on this one. Probably more like a 4 year deal with an AAV in the neighborhood of $6 million/season over the 4 years.

Still more than I'd have paid, though. Guard's the kind of position you should churn through in the draft and look to save money for the impact players on your roster.

Or hey - look at it from this perspective: that money has to come from somewhere (as I expect the extension won't kick in until the 2018 season), so that would seem to suggest that Smith isn't going to be on the roster in 2018.

Its a finesse offensive line really. Schwartz, LDT, Morse-- they all stand out in pass pro. Which would be fine if we were a team that had a QB who could sit back there and throw 35-40 times a game, even with a lead.

No it's not. It's not confusing at all.

Zach Fulton, Mike McGlynn, Ben Grubbs, Jeff Allen. Every single one of these guys either sucked or was a brokedick. Even Parker Ehinger is currently in "broke dick" status.

It's not surprising at all that they invested in the only good G we've had in this regime that is A. really good at pass blocking (have you heard that Andy likes to throw the ball?) and B. Not a brokedick

It kicks in for the 2017 season. In hindsight, Parker has been worth every penny and then some. Hard to believe how many flipped out about that deal.

LDT likely would have taken 5-6 million per year if it was offered. The extension isn't confusing, the $$$ is.

He's not a top 5 guard right now. Until he becomes good in the run game, he can't be put in that group.

Also, calling Ehinger a brokedick is awfully premature. The guy had a Justin Houston type of freak injury where a player whipped into his leg 20 yards downfield on a screen pass.

Dorsey's been brilliant at finding scrap players.

Gotta give him credit for this... so far, he's been very smart about cutting good players at the right time. Can't think of a player cut who went on and did well. So that's reassuring because he obviously sees something in LDT.

But in terms of salary negotiation, I don't know how great he's been. He's overpaid for several players.

LDT was going to be a free agent after this year.

Good time for an extention. We either had to commit to him now, or draft a OG in one of the the first three rounds. Now we don't.

on a positive note, It is highly probable that we are not drafting OL in the first round this year.

Entire starting OL (if you include Ehinger) is under contract the next two seasons. That's quite a luxury.

Well if it does kick in for 2017, that's a pretty serious problem.

Because it's effectively a 4-year, $40 million extension that point. The 'new money' in the contract would be WAY over the top and frankly, if there's $20 million in guaranteed money (in 4 years), it gives Dorsey that much less room to wiggle and build in 'fake' money at the back.

If this is a 4 year extension on top of the 5th year at virtually nothing, that's a pretty bad start.
