I'll stick by my original premise:

Alex Smith is a mediocre caretaker for whom the Chiefs overpaid.

They could have run through a couple of random average QB types instead, kept those picks, and had the impetus to take Carr instead of sitting pat. There are a lot of QBs out there who could have ridden the defense to that lone playoff win against Houston.

I'm happy about Mahomes, but Smith's limitations wasted four years of our time and four years of the careers of some pretty good players.

I'll never say it was a good move, because I'll never believe four years of empty wins with no real upside or threat to win are anything to be excited about.

Funny because from 2013-15, Alex fans have told us how much Alex's smarts reading the field and checking into the right play was a huge reason our running game was so successful.

Fast forward to 2016, our running game goes down a lot (including Alex going from 31 YPG to 9), and somehow its just because we dont have good running backs.

I always figured Smith was a place-holder to get the team back to equilibrium.

Then they dragged their dicks for years and for whatever reason put off taking a legit QBOTF.

They weren't willing to take any risk at all for years and took a HUGE risk on this pick. He'll be Steve Young/Favre/Rodgers or he'll completely bust out.

I don't see any in-between...
