I guess what I'm trying to find out is if the 70mm would be better than normal IMAX.

I tried looking it up and seems like a tough call that may be highly dependent on the theater. Looks like maybe 70mm might be better if you know the theater has a decently large screen an modern enough sound. IMAX at lest seems like they have good standards for sound and if you know yours doesn't have one that was crammed into a smaller theater would be a good way to see.

IMAX image is three times bigger than 70mm. 70mm is 5-perf; IMAX is 70mm but sideways and 15-perf. Bigger image and better resolution.

Very true. There is "LieMax" as well. AMC uses these screens alot. They are bigger screens, promoted as IMAX, but they are actually smaller than true IMAX size.
