Smith is the best QB on the roster right now

If Smith goes down this year the team is ****ed. He's clearly the best QB on the roster right now.

The reason I use W-L with Alex is because I can tell just by his interviews that he uses a style that he knows works for him and tends to do enough to win and that is it. He doesn't care about stats.

He plays it safe and doesn't make the big mistake. If he needs to be more aggressive he will, particularly in clutch time. But in general he plays not to make the big mistake which when you combine with a good defense makes Alex Smith led teams pretty hard to beat.

I always point to Alex quote on Cam

"This is the honest truth: I could absolutely care less on yards per game," Smith said. "I think that's a totally overblown stat. Because if you're losing games in the second half, guess what? You're like the Carolina Panthers and you're going no-huddle the entire second half and, yeah, Cam Newton threw for a lot of 300-yard games, that's great. You're not winning, though."

Obviously Alex went a little overboard but you can tell that he isn't a gunslinger because his style is what he feels is most effective for him and it clearly works based on his W-L record with us.
Smith's style is exactly what a back up is asked to do when the starter goes down.
Manage the game. Don't make mistakes.

Patriots game...major key injuries, Davis' critical fumble, Berry getting schooled by Gronk. Hali dropped an INT that hit him in the hands...and god awful clock management. Controllable mistakes made the difference...Patriots didn't make mistakes.

Steelers...7 drops by WRs, Smith missing Hill on a sure TD, Kelce drop, Refs calling the first holding penalty of the 2nd half to remove points...having your starting run defense on IR against Bell.

The repeating theme is Chiefs have had some of their best players out during the post-season...and they make critical mistakes at the worst time.
That missed opportunity to Hill wasn't the only opportunity that Alex Smith missed.

Exactly.

It's just the only one that has a gif that is posted all the time. There are tons and tons of other missed opportunities that are just like that...we just don't have gifs for them and/or the gifs that we have didn't become as popular as the infamous one.

Someone posted an article with 8 or 9 missed opportunities by Smith about a week after that game.

The Mahomes kid looks like the type who, even after being disciplined and tamed down a bit, would not hesitate to attempt to make those plays.

Agreed. I just hope he has the makeup to develop discipline to actually tame it down enough.

Yeah but the difference is Alex 'All I Do Is Win' Smith can be more aggressive when he feels he needs to.

Example - Colts playoffs game, SD game last year, 49ers-Saints playoff gm, etc. otherwise he would just be backup.

He had a bad game but to be fair he still matched Big Ben's numbers and would have had 0 INTs if it wasn't for our lineman getting destroyed and then the Pitt defender hitting him while he was trying to make a throw.

I hope there was also an article on how pathetic our run D was cause it was beyond bad.

And that is exactly why he is so frustrating and merits hate.

He has shown he has the talent and ability to be a top 10, hell a top 8 QB in the NFL, but he plays from a place of fear, and I have nothing but disdain for that pussy play not to lose mentality.

Play to win or get the **** out.

He uses the style that works for him and has helped make him millions of dollars. He isn't going to change. I have no problem with his style as long as we continue to have success.

I'm sure he will be a little more aggressive this year but I wouldn't expect anything drastic. He is who he is.

He'll be gone after this year I'm sure so if you hate him that much, don't watch. Find something better to do with your time.

Unfortunately the first half of the Colts playoff game and the SD game are the outliers. Those are the rare games where Smith flashes and looks like he could have been an elite QB. Unfortunately it is the minority. The majority of time Smith leaves important throws on the field and that doesn't cut it in the post season.

The run D was pathetic. With Andy Reid as head coach it will likely never be a strength of the team since he seems content with the short passing game replacing a commitment to the run. KC will need a QB to overcome that tendency and Smith isn't the guy.

Boom. Exactly my opinion.

I understand Smiths' mentality after his disastrous first few seasons with the 49ers. Something had to change in order for him to keep collecting paychecks, so he started being extra cautious. Smart move.

Fast Forward::
Now he has made many millions of dollars and setup his kids and families long term finances.... time to work on your football legacy Alex, and it's only going as far as you choose to throw it. Playing scared isn't going to get you to the superbowl.

Just giving you free advice. No need to get testy. Why watch something if it pisses you off? I don't see the logic in it.

That said, I'm glad you don't hate Alex 'All I Do Is Win' Smith that much and you will continue to watch. He's going to play well for us this year.
