Let's talk about the Steelers...

Here we go, one of the games we circled this year.... although I don't think anyone expected us to be headed back home for this one at 5-0, or for Pittsburgh to be 3-2.

We know the story. They had our number in 2016 with two crushing losses. A lot has changed in 9 months, though....

For one, quarterback play. Alex Smith 2.0 is legitimately playing like the best QB in the NFL right now. Ben Roethlisberger, coming off of a 5 interception performance, looks like one of the worst. He also showed his dramatic nature yesterday when he questioned if he had what it takes anymore toward the media.

Pittsburgh currently has the 28th ranked run defense in the NFL, and Kareem Hunt is playing like the NFL's best RB. Seems like a good recipe for us, especially since Mitch Morse and/or LDT should be back for Sunday. I would guess only Morse. Le'Veon Bell is not playing up to his normal standards thus far, as he has only looked dominant in one game. However, this looks like a tough matchup for us there, as we are the 20th ranked run defense and coming off of a bad performance Sunday night in that regard. Both offensive lines are solid groups, although Pittsburgh's has not been as dominant as they were last year.

Pittsburgh has the #1 ranked pass defense right now. Part of that likely stems from their quality of opponents so far. However, we are going to need Kelce Sunday. If the Chiefs have their three-headed monster against Pittsburgh, they are going to be able to put up points. I think they would against about anyone, if Smith is given serviceable pass protection.

Our pass defense is struggling statistically, although anyone who watched last night could tell you that they were almost always in position to make plays on the back end. The Houston receivers always made the play, though, unfortunately. The Chiefs could really use the boost of Dee Ford and Tamba Hali to help bring pressure off of both edges consistently. I think we will probably see Dee this week, but who knows. The great thing about being 5-0 right now is they still have a lot of room to improve. The defense is no where near as good as they can be. Hopefully they hit stride down the stretch in Dec/Jan when the temps drop down.

Predictions are highly dependent on injuries, but because of all of the drama in Pittsburgh right now and KC being at home-- I am taking KC.

Chiefs 30, Steelers 24

I don't like this game. We don't matchup up that well with their offense and their defense has continuously beaten us down.

I hate playing talented teams that are desperate, especially this one. But we are at home so we'll see.

I think, player for player, the Chiefs are just better than the Steelers and should win this game.

The Steeler D is very tough, but has its weak spots, and Alex can weather it and Hunt can get his yards.

Big Ben just looks off this year. He's still capable of having a big game here or there but he just looks fundamentally off. Still, he's a HOF QB who can will his team to victories. I still think we handle his business, though.

The only thing that really worries me is the run game. The Steelers simply do not give a shit about offensive balance. They will run the ball 40 times if they think that's how they can win.

I do think there's a chance Sutton was playing 4 level chess against the Texans by playing so weak against the run. He never stacked the box; he never threw anything at the run game and the Texans exploited it. The Steelers will see that on film and go to ****ing town with it.

But what if Sutton chooses to actually stack the box? Play four fatties instead of 3?

It opens up the passing game some, but I don't care about Martavis that much -- he's not going to beat us. Terrance Mitchell owned Antonio Brown in the playoffs and I still believe in Marcus Peters.

This isn't last year.

Instead of a team on top of the world they're one turnover away from Brown throwing things around and saying "here we go again..."

I really want to beat these guys. It will be great to have a tiebreaker in the playoffs- I don't want the Chiefs to have to play there.

Let's hope Uncle Ben throws 5 more Interceptions this week.

I don't see it happening.

Our plan vs. them (on D) was fine last year. They never got in the the end zone and they were on fire last year.

This year I'd do the same. Let Bell run the ball and play to take advantage of Ben's eventual stupidity...

Boy that's going to be a fascinating matchup between Brown and Peters.

At this point, that's who you put Brown up against if you're the Steelers, right?

Terrance Mitchell just played lights out against Hopkins until the Chiefs stopped giving a shit, and Mitchell shut down Brown in the playoffs.

Peters is amazing but he's also been off his game for a couple weeks, and like Brown, he's hyperemotional and can get rattled. If Brown can beat him a few times, maybe he goes psycho again and the Steelers can have a passing attack?

Then again, betting against Peters just seems like suicide. And if Peters jacks up Brown for a quarter or two, Brown could go off. So that strategy is at LEAST just as likely to implode your offense.

Imagine having the tiebreaker on the Patriots AND the Steelers.

This team could actually do it.

Yeah good point. If the Chiefs can start out being the one who delivers the first strong punches, this could quickly deflate a melting team like Pitt.

Ehinger has to be ready to come back by now, yeah? I'm good with Fulton at C. Not sure what to feel of the RG situation yet. I really hope Watt isn't rushing from Schwartz's side.

And I'm sorry, folks -- I'm sure the Steelers defense is amazing, but this offense is about as close to fool proof as possible so long as Alex and the three key playmakers are healthy.

Hill and Hunt alone just throw all your plans out the window. You have to sell out against the run to slow Hunt down, which takes a ton of effort and wears you out. And Hill forces the secondary to play so deep it opens up the middle of everything for Kelce and Conley Robinson/Wilson/West.

You saw it against the Texans. They sold out to stop Hunt, Hill pushed their secondary so far down the field that Smith was just hitting Conley, Kelce, and Robinson for wide open passes in the middle.

The combo of Hunt and Hill alone basically make this the Air Raid offense.

If we win this game we'll have the tie breaker over Pitt, NE, and Houston. With Carr out we'll probably sweep the Raiders again giving us a tie breaker over all but 1 team that made the playoffs last year.

We will have beaten every team that made the playoffs last year but one.

Yes, this is a different team...

Pitt isn't a "melting team."

This is a Super Bowl QB, a Super Bowl head coach, and Hall of Fame talent at QB, WR, RB, and Pro Bowl talent all over their defense.

They're mentally tough.

I agree the Chiefs should deliver the first punch, but it's going to take 4 quarters to beat these guys. The Steelers are too prideful and they just got embarrassed this week.

This is basically the game in Denver last year, right?

Denver was the team on top of the rock, and it took us 5 quarters trading blows to eventually knock them off.

Well, Pitt's the last team on the rock in the AFC that we haven't knocked off. They are not going to be pushed off the rock easily. We're going to have to take it from them.

I agree (and adore) this entire post but I believe Carr will be back against us.

He'll be hobbled, and it probably won't matter anyway. I'd be shocked if we don't drop 30 points on them twice this year.

Yep, it would be huge. Steelers got very lucky last year in the playoffs- it will be nice to get a big win and put that loss behind us. End their winning streak against us.

Many had Steelers or Patriots going to the Superbowl.

No way.

On the road Ben will throw less and sure as hell doesn't want to challenge our best DB.

They NEED a win. Not just because of their record but the team needs a win for morale...

I hope the Stadium is more than 2/3 Chiefs fans ****ing **** Steeler fans buying up half the stadium seats.

**** you Steeler fans **** you ****s.

I took my kids to their first Chiefs game a couple years ago and half the stadium was Steeler fans but we beat them and went on a 10 game win streak and our first playoff victory in twenty years so there is that.
