There's no reason to start him today. He's had limited snaps with the 1s this week and you have an instant QB controversy. While that's what many here want, the kid is unproven and may lay an egg, driving a couple of members into such deep depression that they leave CP forever. Gosh, who'd want that?
No, the best case scenario would be somewhere in the 2nd, Chiefs up 14-0, Smith gets nicked on his non-throwing hand/shoulder. Mahomes comes in. lights it up, Chiefs win 40-7. Bills score on a late pick-6 thrown into triple coverage, just a rookie mistake that he learns from. Smith's injury isn't serious, but lingers next week and plays the backup role. No QB controversy. Next best would be the kid doesn't light it up, but gets valuable playing time while Smith is available if needed.

Yet he would be thrust right in the game if Alex Smith got his brains concussed once again.

I swear what a bunch of pussy ****ing cowards a bunch is.

Play the kid and watch him take over this offense like a general.

Who cares about the controversy. If you didn't want controversy then watch another sport. OH wait good luck finding a sport without controversy.

Alex Smith needs to feel the heat its the only time he plays well if he thinks his job is on the line. He got complacent and all of a sudden not doing the things he was doing start of the season or something isn't right with him. Take him out give the kid opportunity to shine.

You don't rush a roast.

Now that we finally have what we've always wanted why would we WILLINGLY do anything that would **** it up?

I have ADD.

You have QB-ADD...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

So you like your steak burnt? How about nice juicy medium rare steak sound good to me.

He has had half the season already that's been plenty of time for him to learn.

Get him some playing time this year so he can be that much better next year. Who knows maybe he can propel us in the playoffs this year. He can outplay Alex Smith as it is today.

I'm not sure playing him now would qualify as rushing it. He has had 3 months to learn more.

If you look at Philadelphia, Wentz is proving you don't need 6 years to command this offense. Send him out there with what he knows, and get some on the job training.

Patrick Mahomes II is use to passing 60+ a game it's not going to "ruin" him if he plays today.

For some QB's, yes.

For him - no.

Clearly no. Unless you choose to only look at the positives and have somehow purged the negatives in some strange "Eternal Sunshine" way.

Alex is still a top 10 rated QB by any metric.

I'm not saying don't play him, it's just not going to be an instant SB run if he's on the field as many here feel. I'd like to see what the kid has before we anoint him savior of the franchise.

Bullshit and you don't know he can't I'd just like to find out because I believe he can.

Alex is lame quarterback that doesn't have "IT"

Patrick brings "IT" factor. He will shine with opportunity.

He can play anyways if Alex Smith goes down so I don't see the difference than making the switch now.

It's not about winning a Super Bowl this year we all can agree we wont' smiff the Super Bowl with Alex Smith so why not give the offense a jolt of Patrick Mahomes II lighting and give him experience and Veeche an idea of what the needs will be to help build a team around him.

He's not Wentz, he's PM.

Starting PM might be more exciting but is it the best move for his future?

I don't care about this season. I don't think we have what we need this season with any QB.

It should pretty clear to Veeche already what this team needs...

Again, I'm not saying don't play the kid, what I am saying is don't throw him to the wolves unless it's necessary or he's had some prep time. He'll be the man soon enough. Even you admitted that we're not going on a SB run.
