TBH, part of why I stepped away was to let the reasonable people assert themselves if they intended to. Didn't happen.

That's not what I'm seeing. I think most people, the less vocal majority, are excited for mahomes because he has a high ceiling. Whereas Alex Smith we know he has a playoff floor, but a very low chance of a super bowl ceiling. Most of us are content to take a shot at mahomes even if that means he fails.
