A chainsaw is safer than that lithium-ion bomb.

Way back in the dark ages I worked on the "chain crew" of the county engineering. We didn't have chainsaws back then ... only the blades and axes. Thanks guys! You guys were helpful. The saw has not been running well and one reason I'm considering buying a larger saw. Early on I would take it in and get it serviced about once a year. The owner of the shop passed away and I didn't see another Stihl shop, so it has not been serviced in a while.
After reading the "wisdom" here ... I'm thinking of taking a chance (may be better off to put the service charge on a new saw???), take it in for servicing and if it checks out buy an 18" or 20" bar and new chains. |

You have to go aftermarket on those big bars. Stihls are too flexible if you're felling a big tree, although they are fine for bucking it on the ground. Almost any tree can be dropped with a much shorter bar with the right technique.

Yeah I was just flippin the shit on Coop he likes those long bars. I have never used a powersaw with a bar longer than 24". He was smirking at my Homelite Textron XL. The man in the video below is bucking fir with a homelite XL model 76 like I rave about at work. I love my little Home at Nite saw.

Impressive but when you get any big saw with a Skip tooth chain it's going to kick ass. It is a pro grade chain, yellow not green in Stihl terms
Quote:
i didn't diss your Homelight, I actually used my neighbors climbing saw to thin my oaks, and it was a duel trigger model. I would not use that beast, chain like tat would cut your dick off twice before severing your head. I had already corrected the blade size on the 045 to 26, it was a typo but I don't own a small saw just a 75cc (26) and a 55cc (16). My father in law had a old Canadian 36" that I got running. (He wouldn't let me used it after I got it running) He sold that saw probably within a week. I even suggested that the little Stihl's are bad asses and I mentioned expensive but I didn't diss your Homie.. But don't recall giving you shit except about the Wards saw, the 55 MPH chainsaw motor? Yes. I know they are great motors just takes a lot to get 12K RPMs out of an 7K (spec is 8) engine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-70s-W....c100677.m4598

I bought a Homelite string trimmer from Home Depot years ago that was a useless POS from day one. I finally got so frustrated with it one day I snapped it across my leg and smashed it into the ground. Will never buy anything with that brand name on it ever again.

My Toro TC5000 is still a bad ass machine 25 years later. I used it mainly for brush after getting my Shihl so now it's like never, It takes a blade looks like this. Nice name huh?
