I’m not sure how I feel about using a premium pick on Beal.
2 picks in college. For a high pick with risk, I want turnovers. 0 ints or FF in 15-16 Wasn’t smart enough to stay eligible...may have trouble getting set up by smarter receivers and might have trouble learning playbook and scheme. Not very physical and we run a press scheme I’ll be excited if Veach likes him enough to use a high pick on him as he knows a lot more about the kid than I do, but I’m not seeing what this kid has that’s worth a 2. |

I don't understand this whole process. If you wanted a guy you could have drafted him or picked him up after the draft.

It will take a 2nd to get him too. Cleveland has an advantage.

I think a 2nd round pick is too high for Beal- I know the Chiefs seem desperate for cornerback help but I'm not really sure if Beal would step in and be a savior for us. Having two 2nd's in next years draft gives us a lot of maneuverability and allows the Chiefs to be pretty aggressive at the draft.
Is Beal going to be that much better than the cornerbacks available in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft? I don't think so. |

If we were to get involved in this supplemental draft, I would think about a 6th rounder on Adonis Alexander, who's going to need development time and wouldn't make any immediate contributions to our roster this year. Beal has the potential to see some action on defense if we took him, but that's just such a high price tag, and I just don't know if he fits what we want to go back to (physical, press-man guys). That being said, I'm not going to hate on the pick if it happens. Amerson currently has zero competition for his spot beyond those dumpster dive pickups we acquired last year (Reasor and that other dude) as well as Tremon Smith, a 6th round rookie. For a dude who had a lot of question marks as a cheap one-year "prove it" signing, I'd like to see him slay some more dragons before he's knighted our starting CB opposite Fuller. Beal would certainly help with that. |

But will be worse. If you think he is a 2nd round talent and can get him now for sure instead of hoping he falls next year it's worth the risk unless............big unless......you really don't trust his character.

Bleacher Report article regarding Sam Beal- mentions the Chiefs, Browns and Bills as potential landing spots. This article speaks pretty highly of Beal stating he might be the best supplemental draft prospect ever:

Eric Galko had some stuff up that the CHiefs were heavy interested on the top 2 guys. He had the Mahomes stuff to KC super early.

Tempering expectations in 2018
At this time of year, it's hard to find any football related topics here and that, coupled with the powers of the site seeing to it that I still don't have thread creating privileges, I'll have my say here.
The Chiefs will be a marginal playoff capable team this upcoming season. I know, you've seen the projections of a 8.5 winning season from others but I do agree with it. Why? Let's start with Mahomes. He might blast out of the gate, never look back and be an instant force and star. Chances of that happening given the history of untested QBs in the league? Not so fast. I incurred wrath from most all when I stated last season that Watkins was better because he's already proven, to me, to be the exception to the young QB impacting the league. Mahomes may prove me wrong. He may light up the skies and scare the dogpoop out of the opposing teams but is it likely in his advanced rookie season? Methinks not. I've seen this Chiefs team too many decades. I have. Call it cynical if you will, call it negative but I choose to call it realistic. The 2d reason is the owner. Hunt Jr. is not a winner. He's a showboat PR sycophant mainly focused on profit margins (nothing wrong with that) but intent on staying 'competitive' only to pacify the fans and keep those turnstiles and merchandise sales turning and humming. Hunt Jr. is a poor excuse of a NFL owner. I could be wrong and will admit to same if I am. Right now, I don't see the need.

I'd throw a 2nd at Beal. They won't get him with a 3rd because they'd be too far down the pecking order.
They got the extra 2 for Peters and the 'penalty' of having to wait until 2019 to use it was the biggest kick in the dick. If they can use that to get Beal (and of course presuming they think he can play), then trading 2 years for Peters for 4 years of Beal really isn't that bad. If they think he can play as a functional starter this year (and physically he damn sure can), then they should have no problem using that 2 on him. As for the suggestion that they throw a 4th at Alexander - we don't have one, right? Went in the Ragland deal. I'd flip a 5th out there to see if he fell but I wouldn't offer up a 3rd at all.

But to me the financial aspect of it made more sense the farther away we get from it. It they weren't gonna pay him, and he was as bad in the lockerroom and to deal with as some say, eh. |
