You wanna talk about bad drafts?

I've seen some griping on here lately about our recent drafts. I decided to walk down memory lane and holy mother of god did we have some bad ones about the turn of the millennium.

See how many players you can name in each year before looking.

1998:
Spoiler!

1999:
Spoiler!

2000:
Spoiler!

2001:
Spoiler!

2002:
Spoiler!

Holy hell - 5 years of drafts = a few starers and one marquee player - a special teamer who didn't do much, then had a few great years, then left.

After that at least we started picking up one pro-bowl caliber player per draft and more starters.

There are a few special teamer, depth guys, but **** that is a shit run of drafts.
Yeah that would be, "King Carl: the should have hit the road with Marty"-era of ****tastic drafting.

Not to mention Goonther followed by a head coach who left little to no up and coming talent in the house.

Jesus Christ that era sucked.

Bartee in the 2nd. Wow!

John Tait had a pretty good career.

Don't forget the FA acquisitions on D during those years.

Pat Surtain - although he wasn't bad and the signing made sense at the time, in efforts to try to give DV one more shot at a SB run after a horrible flattening 2004 season, but this signing was a couple yrs too late, and he costed a ton + a 2nd rd pick, which is another example as to why the DV left the cupboard so bare. Draft picks were currency to buy veteran players that he could win w/ right away.

Dexter McCleon - One of the worst CB's to ever play professional football. Bill Bartee was another in that group, and lucky for KC...they played on the same team during the same time! Thank god for the agressive KC DL of Sims Browning and Hicks. Oh wait...

Kendrell Bell - Most people outside of Chiefs boards probably don't even remember him playing for KC, that's how invisible he was.

Sammy Knight - Another signing that was a few yrs too late. He was a good field general, but was slower than dogshit.

Vonnie Holliday - Remember that 1st game he had vs the Chargers? I do. I remember watching that game in my dorm room and watching him get 3 sacks. I was thinking maybe KC D would finally be able to show up. Nope. Disappeared for the rest of the time he was in KC.

Shawn Barber - The guy had a good season in Philly. Then had a good 1st season w/ KC, then fell off the face of the earth. Hey he was good in Madden during that time.
But Ty Law though......

I think Gary Stills had the record for Chiefs special teams tackles. That’s a pretty good midround pick.

The company I worked for in the late 90's did some promotional work with Krispy Kreme when they first moved to KC. We were at a meeting and the owner of the local stores mentioned that Victor Riley came in once and stacked a dozen of their raised donuts, smashed them down into one and ate the entire dozen as a single donut.
