What's wrong with the Bob Sutton scheme?

Set the talent level aside for a second. The scheme itself I contend is bunk. It appears to be a complete read & react defense. Sutton seems to "play not to lose" from a defensive aspect. Turnovers are what his scheme hinges on.

It just appears to be an indecisive scheme. Afraid to commit to attack the run or pass on any given play. It's like he's afraid to run blitz because it may not be a run. He's afraid to pass blitz because they may run the ball. His zone scheme does not seem to call for defenders manning up on offensive players in their zone.

I just can't get a read on what it is he is trying to do. It looks like he is trying to defend against everything all the time. It doesn't really come off that much different than the RAC 3-4.

Dude, the very thing people that had people up in arms was that the defense was giving up big leads. They've done a SUPERB job tonight in all phases and now the issue is that they don't play well when it's close? Come on...

It's a sign of maturity when someone can say '**** it, I admit that I was wrong and Bob Sutton called a great ****ing game against a really good Cincy offense..."

As I've noted from the beginning, it's much more likely the talent. When the guys play better, the scheme looks better. When the guys play like ass, the scheme looks like ass.

After last week's game, I changed my mind on Sutton. I still think he needs to be fired but it's obvious the talent issue is improving and it's no surprise that the defense is better for it.

It’s amazing isn’t it? We simply make fundamental tackles even half the time and the defense looks significantly better.

Call it me giving in to emotion or something but last week was heartbreaking for me. I would rather see someone else coaching the D.

But yeah, it's always been about talent. It's the NFL - players make plays.

It was a good defensive effort today by the defense. Now I'd like to see consistency before I eat my crow.
