It's just an impossible line for a 23 yr old quarterback to walk.

Alex loses that game 34-17. The Chiefs NEEDED Mahomes to be Mahomes for the first 57 minutes of that game. The pick 6 and the first strip sack were both really bad, I'll grant you, but being 'Alexian' wouldn't have avoided those; they were just mistakes that everyone makes.

Ask yourself this - how many QBs presently in the league would've won that game for the Chiefs? 1? 3? I won't really listen to any argument past that.

Brees and Rodgers are the two guys who MAYBE win that ballgame. Neither of them attempt that last pass (Rodgers may have attempted the pick before it; Mahomes got hit and it fluttered - happens to Rodgers as well). Rodgers takes the strips/sacks as well, IMO. Brady probably doesn't, but Brady also doesn't hit some of those TD tosses that Mahomes hit.

People are bagging Mahomes for not being perfect but even the greatest QBs in NFL history are rarely perfect. Maybe Brees wins that game, but Brees also doesn't have the mobility to have saved some of the plays Mahomes saved.

What people are demanding is that a 23 year old Mahomes be HoF caliber RIGHT NOW. That he be the best version of himself right this very instant. Holy shit, folks - lets get ahold of ourselves.

Mahomes wasn't great yesterday but there's also not a quarterback in football I'd have rather had than him in that game. What you'd have needed was some super-hybrid of Rodgers mobility, Brady's internal clock and Brees's preternatural accuracy. You'd have needed some insane super-quarterback because the degree of difficulty for Mahomes last night was immense.

Or you have the 23 yr old who was a Scandrick pick away from winning it on his own.

I said it in another thread but I cannot for the life of me figure out who to be upset with right now. I think the D played admirably. I think Mahomes played extremely well. I think the 'Andy's clock management' crowd is just getting riled up for no reason (you can't slow-play when you're leading; if you can take the lead, take it. If you're tied, go ahead and slow-play).

It was a road loss in a packed 100,000 seat stadium to a SB team with a hot QB of their own. The was an historic final score, but in the end it was a 3 point loss that is a likely win if Mahomes isn't getting hit as he throws on the ball to Conley. I just....whatever. I can't be upset about that.

Yeah, I right there.

Get back healthy, get Morse and LDT back, hope Watkins heals up and Berry is whatever and go from there. They've gotten beat on the road in primetime 2 times by a FG. They're literally never out of a game with this offense and the D is what a D needs to be in todays NFL.

I'll take my chances.

I don't think Morse plays for the Chiefs again. What are the odds of the guy being in the concussion protocol for 5 weeks suddenly getting cleared?

This isn't an Andy issue; the Chiefs medical staff isn't holding him back to get him healthy. He's not clearing baseline tests right now for an issue that is a medical mystery apart from the fact that we know multiple occurrences exponentially increase the likelihood of another one and the duration of their impact.

I'm starting to get worried that Morse may never play again. Jahvid Best just never got cleared and he's a track coach somewhere now. Morse could end up on Mizzou's sideline next season at this point...

It's possible. I figure with 2 weeks here, if he's not cleared after that, he's done. But I thought I read somewhere he was doing better? Maybe not?

Anyway, we shall see.

I was happy with the front 7 last night though. They need another DL that can really rush the passer. Also, holy shit Aaron Donald might be the best DT I've ever seen. Like, is he better than Reggie White?

If you've seen that, it's good news.

I've seen a media blackout on the guy; I've heard nothing since he was injured.

I know Cam Erving is going to take some abuse for last night but jesus - Donald is a monster. I thought Erving did okay all things considered. I just don't know how the hell you stop that guy.

Triple team him and then watch as someone else sacks your QB.

He's Chris Jones strength with Houston's get-off and absolutely perfect pad-level.

I mean how does that exist on a man that big? He simply never loses a snap because there's not a weakness there. Even if you play him perfectly, he's just stronger and faster than you are. The ONLY thing you can do is provide help but it's not like he's going to announce where he's going so you have to make the best protection calls you can and hope you guessed right.

If you don't, he's gonna end up singled up and he's going to win the snap regardless of how well the other guy plays. It's like Federer back at his apex - it didn't matter how good you were or how well you played that day. If he played to his ability, you would lose. You can play the game of your life and if he simply plays his A game (not an A+ day, just has a good day), you had no chance. All you could do was make it respectable.

I can't wrap my mind around how frustrating that would have to be. You're a world class player; among the best few dozen people in the WORLD at what you do. And the only hope you have for succeeding at your job that day is someone else helping you out or the other dude having the flu.

agree with this 100%. Mahomes was Mahomes, and that’s exactly what we needed. He’ll learn, get better, and fall on the sword when he makes mistakes. That’s just about perfect.
