Is there any question this unit has the most questions?

In looking at our roster and some depth charts out there seems these CBs have best shot at finding playing time

Steven Nelson (5'-11, 194, Age 25) - 3rd in '15
Keith Reaser (6'-0, 190, 26) - 5th in '14 by SF
Kendall Fuller (5'-11, 198, 23) - 3rd in '16 by Was
David Amerson (6'-1, 205, 26) - 2nd in '13 by Was
Will Redmond (6'0, 186, 24) - 3rd in '16 by SF

Probably more relegated to special teams duty if they make the team?

Tremon Smith (6'-0, 190, 21) - 6th in '18
Ashton Lampkin (6'-0, 189, 24) - UDFA in '17
Makinton Dorleant (5'-11, 185, 25) - UDFA in '16
Arrion Springs (6'-0, 205, 22) - UDFA in '18
D'Montre Wade (6'-0, 200, 23) - UDFA in '18

Free safety I'm seeing:

1. Leon McQuay (6'-1, 195, 23) - 6th in '17
2. Robert Golden (5'-11, 202, 27) - UDFA in '12, first 6 yrs w/ Pit
3. Armani Watts (5'-11, 205, 22) - 4th in '18
4. Jordan Sterns (5'-11, 198, 24) - UDFA in '17


and SS...

1. Eric Berry (6'-0, 212, 29) - 1st in '10
2. Daniel Sorensen (6'-2, 208, 28) - UDFA in '14
3. Eric Murray (5'-11, 199, 24) - 4th in '16
4. Step Durham (5'-11, 194, 23) - UDFA in '18

Keep in mind the only game he didn't play we didn't have a single defensive holding penalty called THE WHOLE GAME.

I think we averaged around 3 per game before last week.

Options if Berry can't play........... Parker (won't tackle at all), Murray (can't tackle at all), Sorenson (limited in coverage, really a box safety), Lucas (best of the lot?), Smith (not Alex, unknown)

Well Sorenson is on contract for 1 more year a $4.7M. We still need to pick up a CB in the draft, I think.

Just not with the first round. That needs to be OL or LB. We need a stud there.

Wtf? We have 2 CB’s under contract for next season. Not to mention drafting for need is a terrible idea when picking late. BPA is the only way to go if we want to maximize value.

Agree with this. Also, it seems we’ll be taking a WR next assuming we lose Sammy and Robinson.

That’s spot on. I was just looking at our secondary on overthecap and Breeland and Fuller are both free agents along with Claiborne, but we can find depth. I understand this draft is heavy with CB and WR.

I don't begrudge him this...good for him if he gets a big contract. But I'm not certain he'll be pulling an Albert Wilson on the open market. He was a mostly a product of Pat. I mean...he was our 3rd receiver...and probably shouldn't have been, given Hardman would have likely out shined him had they given him more snaps.

BPA is the only way to go. Use FA to fill in the other positions as best you can - in Veach I trust at this point. Assuming Hardman is opposite Hill as starters, I'd like to see them either use Pringle in the slot (mainly for his hands...speed not so much) or look to add a faster slot type receiver from the draft in middle rounds. CB feels less important, depending on what we do with with the defensive line and linebackers. If we trade Chris Jones and don't upgrade the LB's, we definitely need some talent at CB. If we sign Jones and upgrade LB, CB just needs to be serviceable.

Wishful thinking here but if he doesn’t get a offer he really likes he should consider a 1 year deal to come back and he can replace Watkins. Run those numbers up and then go get a big contract.
