He's a ****ing moron. Tredadda nailed it a few posts earlier. He's undisciplined. Add that to all of his other shortcomings, and we arrive at the same conclusion: he's just not worth a longterm deal, and if you can ship him out before committing $15 million for one year of a tag contract, you do that ASAP.

This ain't hard.

Peters was absolutely a shit return because we ****ing NEEDED that guy last season. He was actually solid in the 2nd half of the year and wouldn't have had the adjustment period had we just kept him. You telling me he wouldn't have made a difference in the AFC Championship?

These are poor returns on talented players with deals paying them under market.

How in the hell is $87MM under market for Ford? He was comically overpaid..

Game of inches. Brady's career sums it up pretty well. Tuck rule, Caroll's goal line decision, and the Ford offsides. 6 rings or 3 rings? Game of inches. Guess the Patriot fans would point to the losses against the Giants as evidence of this from the other direction. Some very flukey plays in those Giant wins.

Clelin Ferrell, Montez Sweat, or if they really move up ... Rashan Gary... all fit better in what we expect this scheme to be.

Better size/strength profiles. More versatile. Should be better against the run. Like them all.

In the type of defense Spagnuolo has run in the past and is likely to run now, Ford is a DE. Committing big money and years to Ford would be committing to ALWAYS having to compensate for his weakness against the run. His skill set is best used in pass rush situations in the type of defense Spagnuolo has run in the past. Thus... situational pass rusher.

Good luck to the 49ers with this one.
Hey genius, Ford's natural position is DE. Plus, Spag's system utilizes a LEO end that's a pass rush specialist more so than a run stopper. While he doesn't have protypical size, he is elite at rushing the passer.

Meanwhile in Spag's system the safety is often tasked with coverage responsibilities that are clearly the Honey Badger's weakness.

There's a good possibility that Ford doesn't work out too well as a 4-3 DE so I'm glad we got a 2nd round pick for him and it should be a good pick since the 9ers suck ass.

We have Mahomes for a long long time and getting good draft picks is good for the future.

I'm not going to delve into deep analytical stats (Im not mentally equipped to) but attempt to think about it like this, I would think based on our offensive production last year, our pass rushers were afforded near the top of the league in pass rush attempts (I have no idea if that is a stat, but given point differential and time left in the game, I'm sure someone smarter than me could figure it out) based on game situations in which it would be fair to assume the opposing team was passing in an attempt to make a comeback.

I apologize for the run on sentence in advance
He was near the top of the league in pressures normalized by pass rushing attempts. We traded a top 5 pass rusher for a next year 2nd. I would be ecstatic to trade a future second for a top five pass rusher.

So what would you value a guy that excels at one facet of his position in a deep edge rushing class? Add in the back history, the fact he wanted a mega deal right away and the lack of competition bidding for him. One team, one team was in on him in the end.

2nd round pick is nice, regardless of 2019 or 2020. I think anyone that might trade down would view it as good compensation when combined with something else.

Except SF gave $88 million for a guy who is a huge injury risk. This has Houston or Berry written all over it.

Ford is a natural DE. Undersized, but still he is better with his hand in the dirt.

You do realize that our two biggest FA signings this year and last year were both HUGE injury risks that we overpaid for?

I'd rather risk money on someone who is really good a hitting the QB.

You mean TM? He has played in 32 games over the last two seasons. What about Ford? He’s going to get owned in the NFL by LTs as a DE.
