Ex Bronco running back thinks he deserves gold jacket

Jamaal Charles hasn’t officially retired from the NFL, but at age 32, and after playing just two games in 2018, it seems unlikely he’ll play again. If he’s done, he’ll be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2024. He thinks he should get in.

“I mean, some of my numbers look way better than some people already in Canton,” Charles told TMZ.com.

One particular number is the reason Charles has a chance: He averaged 5.38 yards per carry over his career, the best for any running back in NFL history.

“That tells you what type of player I was,” Jamaal said. “I gave it my all. Every time I touched the ball, I averaged six yards a carry basically.”

Charles is, along with Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, one of just three players in NFL history to have five seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards and 5.0 yards per carry. But Charles only had five good seasons in his career; in his other six seasons he never even reached 400 rushing yards. Five seasons will probably not be enough to get him in Canton, as spectacular as those five seasons were.

I'm not from KC and I've had many an argument about Charles' true ability in relation to his peers. Anyone with a brain has to admit he was ****ing awesome, but the average person doesn't think he was anything truly special.

I'd wager the average (dumbshit) fan would rank JC behind Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson, Marshawn Lynch and Lesean McCoy within his era and probably right on par with guys like Arian Foster and Matt Forte.

People don't care about YPC. They like volume stats for RBs.

Lol Bettis averaged 3.9 yards per season. That fat **** had 300+ rushes in his 2nd season and none of those went over 19 yards. Youd think maybe hed have alot of TDs, but only had double digit TDs 2 times. He was a below average RB that was an anomaly and continued to get to start even though he had mediocre production. Him being in the HOF is a joke.

He played on alot of bad teams and didnt do anything in the playoffs.

So i can see where fans outside of Chiefs fans dont think much of him.

I don't think you have a clue about what kind of offenses Bettis played in or what kind of a back he was. Or the pounding took. 375 carries for 1700 yards is unheard of today and an amazing season for that era.

There is more to RB than just breaking big runs.

Marcus Allen barely averaged 4 YPC in Kansas City but I'm sure you won't talk shit on him.

Charles was awesome when healthy. So sad to see the injuries he had and for him to think he had done enough to secure a spot in the HOF.

Jamaal's case is entirely warranted by Terrell Davis's inclusion. Both players with a limited body of work who excelled in their short time on the field.

I don't think either player is deserving. But it's not like it's a consistent system and for that reason I think he's right to push his case in such a foregone fashion.

In baseball, Harold Baines just made it...............these decisions don't always make sense years beyond a player's career.

Davis

Charles was just as productive in a 5 yr period as Davis was in 4, injuries affected both players. Switch players and teams and it's Charles in the HOF.

It's sad that Davis rode the heals of Elway and a very good defense.
Match Priest upwith Davis...

Just popping in to remind everyone here that Terrell Davis was literally the best postseason running back in NFL history.

Jamaal was in the playoffs with Mark cassel once and lost to the ravens. Seems like he got hurt during the game
