Ex Bronco running back thinks he deserves gold jacket
Jamaal Charles hasn’t officially retired from the NFL, but at age 32, and after playing just two games in 2018, it seems unlikely he’ll play again. If he’s done, he’ll be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2024. He thinks he should get in.
“I mean, some of my numbers look way better than some people already in Canton,” Charles told TMZ.com. One particular number is the reason Charles has a chance: He averaged 5.38 yards per carry over his career, the best for any running back in NFL history. “That tells you what type of player I was,” Jamaal said. “I gave it my all. Every time I touched the ball, I averaged six yards a carry basically.” Charles is, along with Jim Brown and Barry Sanders, one of just three players in NFL history to have five seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards and 5.0 yards per carry. But Charles only had five good seasons in his career; in his other six seasons he never even reached 400 rushing yards. Five seasons will probably not be enough to get him in Canton, as spectacular as those five seasons were. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-hall-of-fame/ |

The HOF has a lot of players that were great, but maybe not pure HOF material. And, sadly over the next 10 years, you'll see it become more watered down by players that had long careers and great numbers. Longevity should be a factor, but not the driving factor.
There are easily 15-20 inductees (players and other) that you could pull from the HOF now and start to reset expectations for greatness.

I agree that he's in the Hall of Really Good and not the Hall of Fame. If he had found a way to get to 10,000 yards I think it's a no brainer. I just checked on his TDs because I wasn't sure where he ranked. 44 rushing TDs is tied for 97th all time. 65 total TDs is tied for 129th.

Longevity has to figure in as well. SB's are team accomplishments, not individual.

Fred Taylor, Edge, Steven Jackson... Gore, LeSean McCoy, Thomas Jones - are those guys HOF'ers? At some point, longevity and stats are nice but you need that extra and whether they got that extra in 5 years or 14, it's the extra that matters most.

The rest are more deserving of the HOF than Terrell Davis, who just shouldn't be in.

As for Davis, some RBs play much longer and rack up good stats, but don't accomplish as much. So, the debate comes down to the player in spite of his team or because of his team and whether they are worthy.

IMO the best running backs are the ones who keep drives alive and show up in the post season.
There's no doubt that Charles YPC is exceptional, but it's incredibly hard to get context on him because of the ultra-shitty teams he played with. His potential was limitless, but never saw full development. JaMaal Charles is a prime example of why having shitty QB's is a dead end street.

The way the NFL allows players to get into the HOF is a disgrace to players who do not handle the football. You can not allow a team to run block, pass block, do all the dirty to allow a RB to run through massive holes, or QB's to have all day to pass. Linemen have to be held into a different grading scale than some sportswriter laboring for a person. There is only so many spots per year foe a player to be honored for their accomplishments.
Floyd Little is one of the ultimate head scratchers ever.

It's getting way too watered down for the sake of inducting new players all the time. |
