Game of Thrones Seasons 7-8

About to hit the 5000 post mark on the old thread, the first season 7 trailer today seems like the right time to start the final Game of Thones thread.

I'm going back to the original rules pre-2015. I don't think we need supervision or bannings. Just don't be a dick. Post anything you find online that hasn't aired yet inside of spoiler tags. That's pretty much it. I think we can all handle that...

The problem is there's nothing to discuss. She got 2 seconds to respond, and before they could even say anything else, the horn sounded and they left.

Of course her initial reaction is to say Jon would have a claim to the iron throne, she has obsessed over it her whole life and she has believed that she was the last Targ for a long time. But there was no chance for any follow up so who knows how she will really react, they didn't let it play out long enough. She did not look mad at that point, she looked confused.

And the aunt-nephew part probably wouldn't phase her much given that she's a Targ and they do brother-sister all the time, so it makes total sense that her first thought was that she no longer has the only/best claim to the throne. I don't really get why anyone would think her first thought would be the aunt-nephew thing, but I've read a lot of posts to that effect for some reason.

I think there is some kind of curve ball coming. Don’t want to know spoilers at this point but like Daface says, 3 episodes left after the battle for Winterfell something is going to happen other than this huge battle in episode 3.

There will be war even if the White Walkers are defeated. Sansa, and the North, is not going to want to be under anyone's thumb anymore. There is just a wide gulf.

I'll get smushed for this, no doubt ... so apologies in advance ...

But, I thought that was the worst episode yet. To me, it came across like an episode from a medieval soap opera on CBS. What I saw was a series of obligatory encounters and reunions and conversations capped off with the classic, "We're going to die and I've never had sex, so let's do this thing."

I realize that the writers and producers are trying to wrap everything up and give the fans what they believe they want, but this could have been written by a freshman creative writing student, IMHO.

To me, it's never been more obvious that the writers are lost without the source material and their true colors are now showing. My takeaway was "predictable" and "trite".

It hurts my soul that this is what they're delivering. Even worse, it's painful to recognize that they can get away with it because the fans are so invested in the characters.

Well, her first reaction was to ask where he heard it, and then imply that the sources weren't trustworthy because they were both closely linked to Jon. I'm sure that eventually she'll put all the clues together - how the dragon initially reacted to him, the fact that he could ride the dragon solo, and the fact that Jon does not seek the throne, is also hopelessly honest to the point of being a ****ing idiot, and clearly isn't happy about what he knows. And once she accepts that, she'll know that he's the legitimate heir, not her.

However, she is a pure Targaryen who has lusted after the Iron Throne her entire life. Pretty much everybody she's met at Winterfell has been hostile, dismissive or merely tolerant of her (and the show has gone to great lengths to emphasize that), and that is certainly pissing her off.

She might turn on him. That would really suck, but as they say, love is love and business is business. And her business is being the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

yeah, I saw it as a homage to the fans. One last chance to see these people interact thst you have loved for years. Get your one last look because we are killing some of these people in a few hours.

eh, i agree with that. the bright spot was tormunds story about his name. like yeah I could see that guy just telling tall tales trying to psyche himself out in order to attempt a task that he doesn't believe can be done. the rest of the episode was callbacks to prior seasons. its like they wrote this episode to coerce GoT fans to go back and watch previous seasons just to up the view-count. (because S8E1 set a record)

I've been mildly disappointed with everything and everyone in GoT since Alliser Thorn died.
