And your question is further complicated by the fact that the Bears had just signed Mike Glennon to a 3 year deal only a month prior to drafting Trubisky. And there was no change in coach, GM, or lead front office personnel from the previous spring. They had the exact same decision makers in place who would have done all of the regular season scouting in addition to checking out things like the combine, which were all events that took place BEFORE free agency.
So if Trubisky was truly THEIR GUY and they believed no other QB was good enough for them, then MAYBE the trade up makes sense, but the fact that they spent all that money on a 3 year deal for Mike ****ing Glennon really throws a wrench in the works there. In any case, it was a clear case of indecision, lack of a coherent power structure, and a lack of communication on the part of the Bears. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that chaos and disorganization played a part in their dumbass trade up. |
