Peter King Mock: heard a rumor that the Chiefs want to trade up

for Ruggs if he falls into the twenties (not happening anyways).

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ia-peter-king/

Just thought it was interesting because it’s Peter King who’s reliable.

He has us taking Jeff Gladney

Quote:
32. Kansas City—Jeff Gladney, cornerback, TCU

Craziest rumor of the first round: Chiefs want to trade up for Henry Ruggs if he falls into the twenties. Insane. Do they want every sub 4.35 guy in the National Football League? A couple of theories: There are only two very good cover corners in this draft, Okudah and Henderson, and they’d be long gone by the time the Chiefs could make a reasonable offer. Sammy Watkins is a short-termer, probably only one more year in KC, so another quick-twitch guy would fit either this year or next. Finally, fast guys with slight builds who collide with defenders tend to get hurt, so Ruggs would be good insurance for that in 2020 and a stalwart beyond that.

Anyhoo, the Chiefs’ biggest position of need right now is corner, and Gladney is a competitive and tough player who would fit in Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme.

That will still be 100x more sports excitement than any of us have seen in 6 weeks.

I'd watch the NFL draft from beginning to end Thursday even if the Chiefs didn't have a first round pick.

It will be interesting from the virtual-social distancing aspect.

Did they change any rules about time?

If this were true, there would be no "rumor."

The Chiefs FO doesn't let shit like that leak.

Peter King literally broke the news that we were in love with Marcus Peters in his one and only mock days before the draft like this one...

I trust Veach and will be okay with what he does regardless, but IMO, it would be incredibly stupid to trade up in a draft that has so much depth and talent at positions we need and could easily fill a hole at 32 or even later if we trade back and acquire more picks (my preference).

IF Veach trades up, I would question the strategy, but I wouldn't question Veach or the player he drafted.

This move would seem counter-intuitive....considering they only have 5 picks in a deep WR class.

I seriously doubt this happens...especially since Veach stated he thought some talent would fall in the first round.

They have too many players slated to leave next year to be giving up 3 picks for a single WR.

This draft needs to be about restocking cheap labor....to compensate for Mahomes contract.

Unless they plan on dealing their 2021 #1...which should be #32 again. That would be the only scenario that would make sense...giving Ruggs a year in Reid's system before Watkins leaves.

Gotta remember... while we don't have a lot of draft pick to trade... we do have players..

I wonder if CJ / LDT would be included in any scenario, although I do think it would be foolish to move CJ for JUST a slide up 10 places for a rookie WR.

I'm here for it.

Just throw your defense a bone and say "hey guys, hold them below 35".

We have more pressing needs than wide receiver (even though we don’t have many needs at all)...however, if it happens, Mahomes might throw for 60 TDs this year. A shortened offseason and pretty much our entire offense back. Then you add another 4.3 40 guy? Watkins becomes our 4th fastest receiver? Holy shit.

Jones is worth a top 10 pick at the least....I'd value a proven commodity over hope.

The only scenario where Jones should be in play...is if KC needed to move up for a franchise QB.

I love CJ, but I’ve been okay with the idea of trading him for the Jags 20th and 73rd picks. It’s probably a little less than what the 49ers got for Buckner value wise—but it’s worth more to have the extra pick.

However when I do this trade in my head it’s for one of Murray/Queen. But if we went Ruggs at 20, and still could go best D player available at 32...id be intrigued
