Peter King Mock: heard a rumor that the Chiefs want to trade up

for Ruggs if he falls into the twenties (not happening anyways).

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...ia-peter-king/

Just thought it was interesting because it’s Peter King who’s reliable.

He has us taking Jeff Gladney

Quote:
32. Kansas City—Jeff Gladney, cornerback, TCU

Craziest rumor of the first round: Chiefs want to trade up for Henry Ruggs if he falls into the twenties. Insane. Do they want every sub 4.35 guy in the National Football League? A couple of theories: There are only two very good cover corners in this draft, Okudah and Henderson, and they’d be long gone by the time the Chiefs could make a reasonable offer. Sammy Watkins is a short-termer, probably only one more year in KC, so another quick-twitch guy would fit either this year or next. Finally, fast guys with slight builds who collide with defenders tend to get hurt, so Ruggs would be good insurance for that in 2020 and a stalwart beyond that.

Anyhoo, the Chiefs’ biggest position of need right now is corner, and Gladney is a competitive and tough player who would fit in Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme.

Rumor mills are always interesting and will ramp up closer to the draft.

Gives us something to talk about I suppose.

Yeah, and with the lack of anything non-Covid related to talk about, it seems worse this year.

Lots of great talent in this draft, hell KC could trade down a bit and pick up another pick or two.

I'd like to see Denver trade down from 15 and do the same.

It makes no sense unless they use one of our WR to trade up.

Ie use Watkins to trade up, so basically Watkins for Ruggs. Chiefs get younger and drop salary. Someone else gets a proven veteran.

The draft is deep with Wrs so i still don't see it happening.

I am wrong based on something that happened with Peter King once, 5 years ago when we had a different GM. Got it.

Watching the Chiefs draft Patrick Mahomes was the greatest sports memory I ever had in my life. It's now #2, behind watching Patrick Mahomes win the Chiefs a Super Bowl.

But they're two different types of happiness, and in some ways I was MORE joyous when the Chiefs drafted Mahomes. The Super Bowl win was an accomplishment. The curse was lifted. And we reached our goal, something I've been wanting to see my entire life as a fan. The actual drafting of Mahomes, however, was the HOPE of that dream coming true, all in a huge surge of emotion, knowing that even my Chiefs are capable of taking that necessary risk you need to become a champion.

One was joy from relief. The other was joy from hope. The NFL Draft, for fans of the shittiest franchises, represents hope.

But if you can't stand the fact that Mel Kiper gets shit wrong a lot, then you do you, buddy. Go get your surge of endorphins from your shitty macadamia nut cookies. I'll take the NFL draft, thank you very much.

They seemed locked in on one of the top Wr. and one of the should be there so I don't see a trade down.

KC to me seems to be looking at a lot of different scenarios and moving pieces. There are probably one/two guys they would move up into the 20's if they slip and handful they would take if they make it to 32 and some spots they would move back 5-10 and gamble their guy is still there. It will be interesting. Just a long time to wait for the first 20 or so picks to happen.

Veach seems more likely to be aggressive with adding offensive weapons for Mahomes than drafting a CB in the first round... just based on his history as the Chiefs’ GM.

I'm fine with that. Score 40 a game and let's see who can keep up.

He has 2 years of draft history. You can't really take anything yet out of his tendencies because the sample size is too small.

No, you’re wrong because you were implying that it’s impossible for King to know what the Chiefs want to do, when he in fact has before and reported it.

Again, it was during Reid’s tenure. What difference does it make who the GM is? Also, Veach hasn’t had a 1st round pick for King to have dirt on since he became GM. You realize that, right?

Didn't we have one last year until a day or two before the draft?
