And the Texans gonna pay Deshaun more than Mahomes. 24-0 lead in playoff game and lose by 20 points. Good luck with that contract Houston.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned is that the chiefs basically did this same thing with tyreek except they didnt guarantee the years in advance. His big money is also in roster bonuses but he only collects if hes on the team that season (this year was guaranteed from signing) whereas mahomes get guaranteed earlier. Its definitely a different way than normal of doing contracts but they had their trial run at it with tyreek.

Spring 2021 = $100M dead cap
Spring 2022 = $113M dead cap
Spring 2023 = $121M dead cap
Spring 2024 = $82M dead cap
Spring 2025 = $81M dead cap
Spring 2026 = $91M dead cap
Spring 2027 = $55M dead cap
Spring 2028 = $89M dead cap
Spring 2029 = $95M dead cap
Spring 2030 = $64M dead cap
Spring 2031 = $52M dead cap

If the little alien guys from Space Jam steal his talent, KC is in pretty deep trouble with these dead cap numbers.

Are there seriously chiefs fans who do not see how “team friendly” this is?

Asking because I saw some headlines. (I mean click bait) saying it was bad. Just wanting to hear the argument from a real person, who’s a chiefs fan.

His average salary is 45 mil a year. In the later years that honestly gonna be below market value. Mahomes took like 50-100 million less than he could’ve gotten. That can get you 2-3 key players re signed

Could be, for the 10 years Starting 2 years from now. But it’s also 39 mil a year for 12 years; now. And only playing for 10800,000 this next year! How is any chiefs fan bitching about this?

That’ll be a fascinating negotiation to follow. I can’t see him getting the 10 years in length but maybe he can get a fully guaranteed 4-5 years at $40m+ AAV? With O’Brien, anything is possible.

Yup. He'll probably look for less years, more money. And Houston might take it because they get to guarantee less years. Dak will probably look to do the same.

I guess you can't blame a player for wanting more money. I just wonder why a QB doesn't look at Russell Wilson and Eli and ask if that's really worth it. Mahomes structuring his deal this way shows a maturity beyond his years.

Mahomes is seriously underpaid in the early years of his new contract. I really wonder if Mahomes took less money early in the deal knowing that it makes it easier to keep his teammates around. At the very least he knows he has something special that he shouldn't break up. This guy is just cut different. I'm not sure many superstars would be willing to do that.

I always figured that Tyreek would not have taken such a team friendly deal if it wasn't for the allegations against him.

Happy the team stood by him and got what appears to me to be a good deal for KC

Rumor is Deshaun wants 3 year extension. He wants to jump back into the market ASAP, which shows he does not really trust the Houston front office. I don't blame him one bit.
