Conference tourneys are in full swing, local schools going currently and the next couple days.

Madness is underway, next couple of weeks should be fun.

Sounds like you don’t recall the 2008 team at all. Aldrich barely played until the FF, was not a scorer in any regard when he did and was their 4th big off the bench (which made him clowning Tyler Hansbrough all the more hilarious).

Even AD isn’t stopping that KU team’s ridiculous guard and wing play.

I apologize as I didn't follow CBB that heavily then.

However, there's no big that would have stopped AD. Rest of UK's lineup would have matched up with KU's.

Which brings up another point:

It's insane how much Calipari and Self have under achieved relative to their tenures at KU and UK/Memphis re:titles. Cal should probably have another 2-3 titles minimum and Self 1-2.

I don’t think the rest of that roster comes even close to what KU was throwing out in 2008, but I do have great respect for AD. That 2008 KU team might have played the best team defense I’ve seen at the NCAA level but I don’t think there’s any one guy who could stop him. Would be interesting actually.

You don't recall 2014-2015 UK flat out dominating KU and UCLA defensively?

A lot of that is just luck in a single game elimination tournament. 2015 UK was the best team of his Cal’s entire run there but got knocked off by Wisconsin in a game they win 8-9 out of 10 times, while 2010 KU was on par with 2008 only to be knocked out by a fluke UNI win.

Also 2020 KU got screwed out of a likely tournament win by the virus as well.

If we're going most dominant teams of the past 15 years or so in an individual season:

1. 2021 Gonazaga * (if they pull this off)
2. 2012 UK
3. 2008 KU
4. 2018 Villanova
5. 2007 Florida

I agree, a lot of luck is involved, but speaking from a UK perspective, relative to the talent Cal brings in, they should win more. You could argue Cal should have at least 2-3 more rings with his first team(which I don't think is fair to argue since it was his first season), 2015 (I think he'll go to his grave regretting not going 40-0 with that team), and 2017 (they were put in an insane region in which they faced an underseeded WSU team and a UNC team that they shouldn't have had to face until the F4).

I had a conversation with a fellow UK friend/alum where we both agreed Cal's underachieved, but that's relative to the expectations he's set. By any measure, he's been a success.

I'm a KU fan but that 08 KU team I would put up with any team of all time. A team like Gonzaga will never be recognized as an all time great team even if they go undefeated due to the weak conference they play in. How many tough games did they actually play this year?

They were supposed to face Baylor but COVID canceled that game so they played West Virginia instead.

In terms of good teams they faced:
WVU
Iowa
UVA
BYU

I'm not too impressed with any teams they faced in the tournament save maybe USC and possibly Creighton.

But they have won all of their games this season by double digits aside from WVU. That's insane.

2012 UK: 24.73 (which again wasn’t as good as 2008 KU)
2008 KU: 26.90
2018 Villanova: 26.64
2007 Florida: 23.82

2009 UNC: 25.46 (a team which 2008 KU crushed)
2015 Duke: 24.97 (2015 UK was miles better than this team and would have an argument for best team ever had they beaten Wisconsin)

Gonzaga’s SRS is better than 2008 KU but it is built up by mostly destroying patsies.

Only reason I included Duke as HM is that they weren't some fluke team that was carried on the back by 1 player to the title or had some insane tournament run ala both of UConn's titles. That 2015 Duke team was a dominant team, but I agree, 2015 UK would have probably beat them. Wisconsin just matched up way better.

A team like Gonzaga will never be recognized as an all time great team even if they go undefeated due to the weak conference they play in. How many tough games did they actually play this year?
