I feel like maybe NFL OC's are on to all of Spag's tricks and blitzes.
I think there’s just a lack of talent mixed in with players playing like complete ass.

You can throw in a defensive coordinator stubbornly sticking with guys who are not good enough because "they know what they're supposed to do."

Which is a great way to end up with a player leading the league in missed tackles.

Hopefully Fenton, Ward and Gay can play this weekend. I think Gay and Ward were held out because it was the Eagles.

I'd be more willing to accept this line of reasoning if the defense wasn't running around confused before 1/2 the snaps.

I mean if Mathieu and Hitchens are these exceptional leaders of the defense and are instrumental in getting things set up correctly, why the hell is the defense never set up correctly?

And where's the turnover that would explain it? This starting defense has one new player on it from last season.

And no, I don't want to hear it's "Spags complicated scheme" after going through 3 years of bleating over "Bob Sutton's complicated scheme!" nonsense. At a point its pretty basic football shit that we're screwing up.

I think a pretty significant part of it is probably our reliance on sub packages. Teams run up-tempo when we're trying to sub 3 guys out and they get out there just in time to be in the wrong spot.

Sooner or later they need to get their base defense figured out and if that means treating heavy nickel as your base and getting more push from your down linemen, then that's what it means. But you can't just keep running around confused out there because your opponent isn't kind enough to give you 20 seconds to figure shit out.

Yeah this was always my reasoning that in today’s nfl, you’ve gotta have a couple 3 down linebackers that can be adequate at it. You don’t necessarily need kuechly and DJ but you’ve gotta have guys that aren’t liabilities.

Offenses are too good these days at finding and exploiting weaknesses. You need a defense that doesn’t have glaring holes. That leads to others having to try and cover for that.

Maybe.

The reality is that BUF has played a washed up Big Ben, who beat them, Brissett, Heineke and Mills. They haven't played a single top 20 QB yet.

The reality is that BUF has played the 20th, 21st, 27th and 30th ranked offenses in the NFL.

Maybe the numbers aren't telling the whole story here.
