The Chiefs offense was never bad

#1 in 3rd down conversion percentage --- by alot. Because Mahomes.

1. KC 53.33%
2. Buffalo 48.72%
3. Tampa Bay 48.25%
4. New England 46.92%
5. Dallas 45.69%

In 2020 - Chiefs 2nd.
In 2019 - Chiefs T2nd.
In 2018 - Chiefs 3rd.
In 2017 - Chiefs 15th. Wow imagine that? Ya boi Alex Smiff.

The Chiefs offense this year was never bad. They just had weird and many fluky fumbles. A bunch of tipped passes for INTs and key drops.

Imagine if they played 162 games. They'd have losing streaks. Shit happens. Deal with it. Let it fly.

Did anyone say we are done being a good offense forever or something? Of course the chiefs are still a good offense overall. But they were bad for a stretch of games. It happens, hopefully going by last week, they have it figured out. But yeah, the offense was bad.

There was an unrealistic fantasy that Mahomes would just drop 24+ in every game the rest of his life.

Even Joe Montana had slumps.

Bullshit...it was bad at times.

Turning the ball over, especially at the rate the Chiefs have been, is bad....and it can and has lost the Chiefs games.

Theyre among the worst in the NFL at turning the ball over.

Ironically, Montana had his worst ever game as a Chief. Against the Rams, I believe.

Yes, Mahomes said it was turnovers. This team easily is 8-2 without ridiculous turnovers against the Ravens and Chargers. On the other hand the defense truly was atrocious. Nice to see both sides of the line making huge strides.

Chiefs WR Byron Pringle Earning National Recognition

Pringle is on pace for a career year, which in turn has earned him a larger role within Kansas City's offense.

https://heavy.com/sports/kansas-city...improved-play/

Quote:
The Kansas City Chiefs’ pass catchers outside of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce were a concern heading into the 2021 season. With no more Sammy Watkins, there was debate as to who would step up as the No. 2 wide receiver, whether they be on the roster or a body they would bring in via free agency or trade.

Mecole Hardman was seemingly that guy. He played no lower than 49% of the offensive snaps per game through nine weeks, according to Pro Football Reference, reeling in 38 catches for 372 yards and a touchdown. However, poor ball control — Hardman has three fumbles this year — and overall inconsistent play as of late, along with the emergence of another wide receiver on the team, earned Hardman his lowest snap count of the season in Kansas City’s Week 10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders (24).

On the flip side, the aforementioned wide receiver that has seemingly leap-frogged Hardman on the depth chart played a season-high snap total against the Chiefs’ division rivals, earning a 61% snap share in Week 10.

That player is Byron Pringle, and he’s turning heads nationally.

Pringle ‘Most Improved’ on Chiefs

After a rookie campaign in which he spent the entire season on injured reserve, Pringle has spent the past two seasons as a small part of Kansas City’s offense. In 2019, he caught 12 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown. In 2020, he caught 13 passes for 160 yards and another touchdown. But in 2021 he has already surpassed his season-long totals despite there being six games left to play.

Pringle has reeled 22 of 30 targets for 301 yards and three touchdowns through 10 games this season. 19 of those 22 receptions have resulted in first downs or touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference. Pringle’s big-play ability despite a small target share, coupled with his exceptional work on special teams has earned him the trust of the coaching staff, which in turn has awarded him a larger workload.

This is also why Pringle is earning recognition from national media outlets for his improved play compared to his peers. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report named Pringle as the “most improved” player on the Chiefs roster this season after his Week 10 performance.

“Pringle, a 2018 undrafted free agent out of Kansas State, has steadily progressed over the years,” Knox wrote. “He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He caught 12 passes for 170 yards in 2019 and 13 passes for 160 yards in 2020.

“This season, Pringle has become a fairly consistent piece of the offense. He’s played a career-high 39 percent of the offensive snaps and has become a dangerous deep threat in the mold of Hill and Kelce.”

Gordon Jumped Hardman as Well

To make matters worse for Hardman, he was not only leap-frogged by Pringle in Week 10, but he was also out-snapped by another veteran receiver: Josh Gordon.

Gordon — who has only caught one pass in the six games he’s played in this season — played 33 snaps against Las Vegas compared to Hardman’s 24, per Pro Football Reference. Although Gordon hasn’t produced catch-wise on the field during his tenure with Kansas City, head coach Andy Reid said the former All-Pro receiver is ready to “pop” soon.

“So, Josh [Gordon], his time is going to come as far as the production in the pass game. Right now, he’s attracting attention, which is opening up other people, which is a positive thing,” Reid said during his Monday, November 15 press conference. His blocking has been tremendous in the run game. He plays extremely hard. He’s got himself in the last week or two here in really good football shape. He’s been out of this thing for a couple years, so that’s easier said than done and I sure like what we saw in practice last week. I just keep telling him to be patient, it’s going to happen, just keep doing what you’re doing, this thing will pop for you. So, his time will come.”

Turnovers have been exceptionally bad this season. Usually we are good enough to play through some of the aggressive turnovers. But when ball carriers start fumbling or receivers tip balls in the air then it exacerbates the entire thing.

For example the Raiders game, Mahomes threw 2 balls that were picks and were dropped. One would have taken away a TD. That's fine overall except Hughes fumbled on a punt return.

Had those passes not been dropped and Hughes fumbles now we are talking about another 3 turnover game.

So I think we all know with Patrick we are going to live with some turnovers and generally can power through them. It's the other turnovers like fumbles piled on top of aggression turnovers that bite our ass.

Didn’t GB shut out Seattle last week? We scored 13 in the first half then they shut us out in the 2nd. Sometimes you run into a hot defense and look mortal.

Still leading the league in 3rd down percentage at 52.2%. Tampa in 2nd at 48.17%.

This is what makes teams be elite or not. And I've seen it with my own eyes Patrick Mahomes doing check down Alex Smith shit when we are winning big instead of going for it. No doubt in my mind we are goin' back to the ship.

The offense isn’t bad. It never has been. Even at our worst we are terrific.

But it’s fair to say we had plenty of stuff to work on. And we still are. I think most of us by now just know we’re capable of way more. Good news is this is now a balanced team. But we still piss away too many opportunities that we know we shouldn’t.

During the turnover fest, our offense was bad. You can't give the ball away so many times and say it is good. We have an incredibly talented offense that was underperforming. But, it looks like they have learned from it and are playing better.

The Ravens game was bad. I was at that game and it sucked seeing us lose the game. The tough times often bring teams together or push them apart. Clearly the tough times brought them together.

And Gordon got a TD.... wow!
