Agreed. Loved Dafoe, Molina and Foxx. Loved how they toughened up Electros character. Made him more threatening.

Rhys Ifans and Thomas Haden Church seemed like they were on set about an hour. Their characters were afterthoughts.

I wish they would have found a way to bring in Kirstin Dunst and James Franco.

Saw this last night. Should have been titled Spider Man: The Retcon.

I see people saying that this is basically the "Endgame" of Spider Man films, but it's closer to "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in how that film cleaned up the shitpile that was X-3 The Last Stand, No Way Home essentially takes this entire, for lack of a better term, "Iron Man Jr" era of films and just very neatly places them into the garbage.

It was a really great spectacle, and certainly the most entertaining retcon that I've seen, but this story for better or worse acknowledges the rumblings throughout the fanbase that this iteration of Spider Man just was not being done right as by the end of the film, everyone has forgotten that Peter ever existed, even Dr Strange himself.

Pete abandons his friends to their new lives where he will no longer endanger them, he has no access to any Stark Tech, and he creates the classic red and blue suit on his sewing machine in his new apartment before strutting it in the films final swing sequence.

So this sets up a do over of sorts with the next Holland films. With my main gripe essentially being retconned, I am interested to see where they go from here with it.

In a way it feels like "One more day" without the payoff of saving May's life. He loses his relationship with MJ, but also anyone who knew he ever existed in exchange for his secret identity having never been disclosed, and May remains dead. An odd choice, considering that One More Day is reviled by many fans almost as much as the Clone Saga. But for a Hollywood film, it's kind of the only way you can go such a different direction.

A good ol fashioned forget spell.

I'm not sure why we retconned the deaths of Electro, Norman Osborn, and Otto Octavius though. It's not like Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina are going to be popping back up in future films due to their age, and Electro just isn't very interesting.

They should have retconned that dumbass idea that Flint Marko was the one that killed Ben in Raimi's universe. They actually rehashed that ****ing bullshit. Saying once again, hey. It wouldn't matter if you stopped Carradine. Your uncle would still be dead. I ****ing HATE that change to Spidermans origins.

The whole idea is supposed to hit you like a truck. My God. If he had just stopped that man like he should have, Ben would be alive.

Hated it in SM3, hate it more now.

Loved Dafoe's performance, and makes me even more sad that he spent most of the original film under that stupid ass helmet. His ability to play two characters with the same face, and be so wildly different is just awesome. His conversation with the Goblin in the mirror in the original film is one of my all time favorite scenes. He pulls off making Norman a tragic character extremely well.

In the end it was a fun movie having the other Spider Men come and assist. While I'm interested to see what's next, after this one ended I couldn't help but feel these first 3 movies were just a big waste of time. Like, it took 3 films to get where you should have started.

But hey, it's gonna make a metric shit ton of money so no harm no foul.

As an aside for anyone who saw this.

When did the spell to make people forget Peter Parker was Spiderman, suddenly turn into make everyone forget Peter Parker ever existed?

Not sure when that change got made, and it didn't really make a lot of sense that his best friends now not only don't know he's Spider Man, they don't know who he is at all.

The reset is why I love it. It is a masterstroke. The biggest qualms with Tom Holland’s Spidey was that he never had a hidden identity, was too powerfully connected to the Avengers, and we never saw him be a “neighborhood” Spider-Man. This solves all of that, and Sony right now is saying they fully intend on him having a college trilogy while keeping him in the Avengers. Let’s gooooo!

My girlfriend cried at three different points: May's death, Garfield saving MJ, and the final goodbye for the three Spider-Men.

All of those moments made me pretty sad as well, but what really got me was Holland deciding not to attempt to reestablish a connection with MJ and Ned. This whole movie was him being a dipshit kid making bad decision after bad decision trying to do the right thing, but it was that final act that was the most Spider-Man thing he could have done.

Sucks, though. I want my boy to be happy and now he has no one.

They took it back to formula it seems. It was likely getting too out of control to where they would have to out do the previous entry, which after this last movie the next movie would be hard to do. So they needed to bring it back down to scale, to a more Spiderman centric storyline that didn't involve so many characters. I really appreciate that, he's got no Uncle Ben and Aunt May now, but he's making his own suit, living in a terrible apartment, can startup at the Daily Bugle, using his own methods for a police scanner, and his suit seems to be alot brighter with the blue and red and a more traditional feel. I think the only thing they can go forward with is Kraven and Black Suit/Venom in his universe. Let Green Goblin sit for a bit, introduce Gwen Stacy and Harry/Norman Osborne and maybe even Miles Morales, but it's taking it back to the beginnings and I respect that so the second trilogy is less space and magic oriented, and more back to the basics of Spiderman lore. Hobgoblin would be interesting too, he's so similar to Green Goblin, but they've already done Green Goblin twice now. Due to leaked photos of Ned they suggested that Ned might become Hobgoblin by the end of No Way Home, I'd say leave those characters behind, there's no need to bring in Ned and Zendaya's MJ anymore, start fresh and explore more of the rogue's gallery. I think the best stretch of villains they could do from her on out is Kraven, Venom/Goblin, Carnage/Venom for the next trilogy with maybe a Jon Berenthal Punisher cameo for one of the movies. You know they'll bring in Miles Morales and Spider Gwen eventually, too much popularity in those two characters to just leave them in the Spiderverse movies and not bring them into the live action world.

The only thing that pissed me off about this movie was that they wasted Tom Hardy completely and there's no reason that a small bit of the symbiote would stay behind while the rest got sent back with Tom Hardy. Tom Hardy didn't even know who Spiderman was so there was no reason why he was teleported to this universe, similar to Electro seeing as he was hoping Garfield was black under the mask. I don't know what they do with Tom Hardy's Venom now, after Carnage, where do you go? It's just a shame because it went nowhere, was just a vehicle to get the symbiote in Tom Holland's universe, and they could've just brought the Symbiote to earth in another way that didn't bring Hardy into the picture. Also, Hardy just sat there, talked to a bartender for his entire time in Holland's universe? LOL just kinda dumb and they didn't think it out very well.
