Some Things About Today's Game: Week 17 KC 31 Zebras 34

Some Things About Today’s Game Week 17: KC 31 Zebras 34

The Chiefs did not get their “Ass Whipped.” They lost on a field goal kicked on the final play of the game. So stow that “ass kicked” garbage. It’s not true.

This is the first time we’ve lost a game in the last eight games. This was on the road, missing our two starting tackles. When you lose your two starting tackles, things usually don’t go well. Go back and watch last years Super Bowl if you don’t believe that.

When you get outscored 17-3 in the second half of a shootout game, you don’t deserve to win. Go back and watch the KC-Tennessee playoff game from the Alex Smith era if you don’t believe that.

Chase had more yards receiving and more TDs than Mahomes had passing in both of those categories. If your DC can’t adjust to a guy who is burning you deep over and over, you don’t deserve to win.

The Bengals got six first downs awarded on penalties. Chiefs got Zero.

Get over the kickoff return call back. Anderson was holding. That’s what happens when you activate a practice squad guy in a big game. They make stupid mistakes. You have to just get past it. Chiefs didn’t. They only scored three points in the second half

If you put Sorenson on deep coverage, you deserve to lose. The first seven games of the season should have taught Spags that. If Sorenson is back on this team next year, something is seriously wrong with Bruce Valanche. When you give up a third and 27 deep in the fourth quarter, you deserve to lose.

The last minute of this game was eerily similar to the loss against the Raiders in Oakland three years ago. How many chances are the stripes going to give the Cincy offense to win? Five? Six? More??? Answer: Whatever it takes.

We may need to draft another offensive tackle next year. Niang seems to be injury prone and is unreliable for the long run of an entire NFL season. Get a Free Agent, or just keep Wiley starting at right tackle.

Silver Lining Stuff: Thuney is a very good offensive lineman. Hardman made a nice catch. Kelce got his 700th reception faster than any other tight end in the history of the NFL. Williams is a really good running back.

Future: We’ve probably lost the number one seed. Tits play the Texans next week. The Tits won’t make the mistake the Bolts made, and they’ll crush them. The winners of the other three divisions, Bills, Bengals and Tits, all beat us head to head in the regular season. So we have no complaint if we’ve lost the number one seed. That was the prize today, and this team failed to secure the prize. The guys needs to suck it up, prepare for Denver and get in the mind set to deal out some payback in the playoffs. That’s all I have to say about that. It’s very hard to make it to three Super Bowls in a row. We’re seeing how hard that road is now.

A brutal loss. No doubt. No matter what, we’re the AFC West Champions. Hopefully this will wake the team up and give them some motivation. Beat Denver. Beat them down. Beat them bad.

Refs didn't steal it. We lost. There absolutely WAS a hands to the face and you'd have to be a blind homer to deny it. We lost. Move on and quit crying about it. The seasons not over.

The big thing I noticed was how well Mahomes' footwork got in comparison the beginning of the season. It was like he suddenly decided to take that facet/skill seriously

I agree with gblowfish on the Chiefs drafting an offensive tackle this year. I've zero knowledge of this year's OL class but if there's a RT with Creed and Tre's physicality, I would love to plug him in over there to complete the sheer violence and nastiness of that right side.

I felt bad for Ward he played about as perfect position as a CB could and he has been playing good all year. I hope this doesn't discourage his confidence. I haven't seen a WR do things like that than Randy Moss or Owens. I mean Chase is going be something special in the league and the Bungels are a young team they maybe formidable foes in the playoffs for us for years to come.

Spot on, my friend. I'm not going to disagree with anything you said, George. The NFL got just what they wanted, barring complete meltdowns next week. Was there a thumb on the scales to make it happen? Well, let's just say the zebras are paid by "New York".

Let's face it, Goodell and pals are just jizzing themselves over the playoffs in the AFC. You'll have the Chiefs vs. the Chargers (in Jim Nantz's voice) "An old fashioned AFC West shootout, Mahomes vs. Herbert". "A tough Colt's team vs. Burrow and the New Kids". "A rivalry that goes back to the rough and tumble days of the AFL with Allen and the Bills against the Pats with the Old Master. Does he have yet another bit of magic in that hoodie?" Face it, nobody gives 2 shits that the Titan's got the #1 seed because it's all about the ratings. They won't be allowed to make it to the AFC Championship game because they don't have a poster boy QB. Say all you want about Jones, but the only way the Pats make it to the Superbowl is if Tampa wins the NFC. If your team isn't QB'd by Mahomes, Herbert, Burrow, or to lesser extent, Allen, no one other than their fans gives a shit about the Colts or Titans.

The NFC will be between the Packers and the Bucs. Why? The thought of the Old Guard vs. the Young Guns have Madison Avenue churning out Doritos and Bud Light commercials right now. Sure, they'll try to pimp that up with the drama (?) with Rodgers contract and Brady's age, but bottom line is it won't matter. As long as one of them represents the NFC, the coffers of the NFL will overflow.

That being said, defense (particularly linebackers and secondaries) got their shit pushed in by the Cincinnati offense today, Ward especially.

This loss really hurts because it cost us a chance to be in driver's seat for first round bye in AFC Playoffs, especially considering Tennessee has the head-to-head win over us.
Agreed on this. We've rightly talked up the defence the past 8 weeks or so so it's only right to point out the failings now too. People are concentrating on our CBs but our LBs looked awful in coverage. I think there's enough talent there, sometimes you just get outplayed, but as much as we want a DE there's room to improve at all levels. Hopefully some comes with natural development and good coaching as we've seen with Fenton and Ward, but it feels like we're getting all we can from the ability of players. At some point Hitchens, Sorensen, Ward etc need to be upgraded. Easier said than done with our cap space, especially with the need for another WR and DE.

Cincy are good and are going to be a problem with Burrows, Chase and Higgins. BUT, their OL is not sustainable and their LBs and secondary are nothing special. There's no guarantee they manage to improve either and I'm confident we beat them in a rematch assuming we'd bracket Chase.

The NFL is setting Mahommes (face of the NFL) up for a revenge tour to beat everyone who beat him during their regular season Super Bowl.

The optimist in me wants to say this is getting the bad juju out of our system one last time before the playoffs.

Spags is better than this. He’s usually been good at adjustments. Hopefully a ton to learn with what happened today.

The nfl is on notice about officiating. They’re getting universally panned for this. Hopefully works to our advantage. Better yet, the nfl goes back to loosening emphasis on DBs. It hurts our offense but we need this on defense.

On offense the same issues. Missed opportunities because of uncharacteristic drops. Tyreek and kelce both left points on the board yet again.

My one huge disappointment is I don’t think this settled the ceh thing even though I think it should have. I’ve been iffy about darrel as a lead back but he was decent yesterday. Way better than CEHs best.. May get lost in a loss. And their refusal to use gore as a #2 rb is still so damn confusing.

And missed tackles. I don’t see that happening again

This is why you don't pay corners.

Good, smart, athletic, versatile safeties are more valuable, in my opinion.

they don't let corners actually do anything but shadow receivers. It sucks.

This is pretty much it for me as why we lost.

Also the defensive scheme call on 3rd and 27 was an abortion. Did Spags not see what their receivers were doing all game? Then you put Ward on him all by himself? Just inexcusable.

If they picked up even 15 yards they most likely kick a FG or face a 4th and 10. They basically took the game away from Mahomes.

The REFs blew too late calls - the horsecollar that wasn't and a DPI against Fenton I believe when their receiver ran the wrong way and there was NO HOLD, TURNING THE RECEIVER OR BUMP. The defender brushed his hand across the guys midsection and it caused no issues. I'm sure if I look I can find a penalty or two against the Bengals that were never called.

I felt early on in the 3rd that we were in trouble but I kept hope and didn't want to be a downer. You just felt that Cincy wanted it much more than we did.

Thanks GB and let's pray for a Texans miracle of beating the Titans. If not, let's rest our starters.
