NFL is Rigged: Week 18 edition

The CP consensus is that the NFL is rigged. Welp, as such, I think it’d be great to discuss this week’s script.

The NFL is rigged, so this should be easy. As easy as predicting a WWE In-Ring interview being rudely interrupted by a rival with a steel chair.

Call your shot, what kind of week 18 shenanigans is the NFL up to?

Las Vegas vs L.A: Which new stadium does the NFL prefer? TWO teams in L.A make the playoffs?

Will the NFL write in a tie game sending BOTH to the playoffs?

Will they sneak the Steelers in for one last hoorah for Ruthlessraper?

Or will they write in Lamar Jackson because he generates ratings?

Will they give the most prestigious player (Mahomes) the #1 seed, or do they want to see the Chiefs in the WC round for extra ratings?

If a game is rigged for ratings. Is it possible Andy doesnt step on throats and tries to keep the game within reason to avoid these rigged penalites and keep the game called evenly?

Tom Brady is pretty damn good at it.

Kelce, especially earlier in his career, is not.

All of this can create bias in one direction that results in poor officiating. I think an example of this is the AFC Championship game last year against the Bills. I think the Bills threw a giant fit about our DBs holding/illegal contact and the league made a point to "watch for it" in the Super Bowl. And the rest is history.

None of that is scandalous or deceptive.
I actually agree with this a lot.

And I think Brady is very good about seeing that stuff on film and mentioning it to refs before each game, I'd assume.

I think your explanation is a huge part of the reason the SB last year was called so heavily against the Chiefs secondary.

Bills likely rage complained afterwards, and Brady got in the officials' ears pre-game of the SB.

Honestly, I can't say I am upset with Brady about it, either. It's a smart move.

Yeah, it's probably just less obvious in football, outside of the camera shots where Brady is crying about something.

Watch a CBB game and see the HCs in the ear of the refs the entire game, and I'd have to assume that's happening all game on the sidelines, too.

And that's been my theory for the SB... the NFL didn't want it to become chippy, tells the refs to watch for stuff, and the refs completely botch their instructions with some horrible calls. And add the Brady whining, which sadly I'd say Mahomes probably doesn't do enough.

Alright, so i got:

Chiefs over Broncos in a blowout: Broncos are out of the playoffs. I considered the NFL trying to keep this game close as it's a featured Saturday game, but i think the NFL will instead opt to make the Chiefs look good heading into the playoffs.

Texans over the Titans: The NFL has been using the Texans as their upset special team all season. Henry will return for the WC round only to be eliminated. Chiefs get propped up as the top dog in the AFC, giving the NFL their golden boy #1 seed.

Jaguars over the Colts: No one cares about the Colts. Expect a multi turnover game from the Colts as they self sabotage their way out of the playoffs for the Shield's sake.
The Jags have to win this game so that.....

Steelers over Ravens: NFL gives Ruthlessraper one last hurrah as the Steelers are the surprise team that makes it into the playoffs. With the Colts losing, this puts the Steelers back in the playoffs.

Raiders over Chargers: There's simply no need for two L.A teams in the playoffs, especially when one literally has no fanbase. The NFL is promoting L.A through the Rams, and can now promote LV. This game was setup at the start of the season. The Raiders started hot, but the NFL knew they'd have to temper them down in order to make week 18 an unofficial playoff game. They forced the resignation of Gruden in order to slow them down. The Ruggs accident was incidental off field drama that only helped the cause.

Cowboys over Eagles: Jalen Hurts is a nice story, but there just isn't enough star power here. The NFL wants to promote "America's Team" with a strong showing headed into the playoffs. Expect some ref shenanigans as they don't want Dallas to run away with this one and make Philly look weak headed into the playoffs.

Falcons over Saints: Saints are done. No Brees, no star power, no Hurricane. Besides, the NFL wants to see the 49ers in the playoffs.....

Rams over 49ers: The Falcons beating the Saints makes a 49ers loss irrelevant. They can now promote L.A's super team w/o having to remove San Fran from the playoffs.

I cant believe people think official bias and base emotion have a say in this....it's about money and exploitation.

Maybe in rare occurrences...but not it's the norm.

The ones behind this are more pragmatic than that...and some owners have more sway in the hierarchy.

The ones that purchase a NFL franchise...are ALLOWED to purchase them. There is level above the owners...

Emotional response is for the fans...and of course they project this on the motives. Simple, narcissistic humans...

If they want a certain result, they’ll just instruct the refs to call heavy penalties on one side. The refs are just part time employees doing what they’re told. Again, no big conspiracy. Just really human nature at play and a giant corporation doing what they see fit to maximize profit and popularity.
And you think the NFL telling their "part time employees" to cheat wouldn't come out?

I don't know, I suppose it's entirely possible it could just be paranoia, but I'm not an overly paranoid guy. I tend to just roll with the punches and trust people for the most part. So that's what makes me even more confident that I can trust my eyes and instinct on this topic.
Well said. Florio, who I despise like all others do, made a funny comment a few weeks ago after the Bills and Bucs game when he and Simms were discussing the DPI and the non DPI that won the game for Brady. He said that year after year the Brady and refs issue is a topic. With that being said he agreed there must be something to it if the media talks about it every year. For more years than I can remember Brady gets big time calls to help him out when he struggles or the non call to help him win. That's not made up. That's a fact.

I also remember posting on this board before the SB that we would beat any team but not Brady. I stated that the refs would **** us and they sure as hell did so bad the media even took our side during the game. Simms the next day said he got a dirty feeling watching the game because the flags were so bad.

Pretty odd that in that SB we set the record for most penalty yards and we played the guy that benefits from flags far more than any QB ever has. It's also odd that this season us, being the same team, lost a game with the largest flag difference of the year by far. Big flags have aided us top lose 3 playoff games in recent memory as well. Titans, Pitt and NE. When it happens over and over again it's not a coincidence.

I have no idea what the end game plan was but it didn't include us in those games.
