That's assuming you score a TD, which wasn't a given.

If he throws it away on those downs and we have to settle for a FG, they get a chance to try and take the lead in a tie ball game with like a minute left.

Exactly. An incompletion on 2nd down would be disastrous. Even worse than Mahomes taking a sack on 2nd down.
