The Raiders wanted a hire with more potential. Is that a move with foresight or a sign of a dismal franchise? Time will tell. But regardless of Bisaccia's skin color, he wasn't obtaining the permanent role. Not after the two KC blowouts.
No it wouldn’t have. Bisaccia was not hired to be the head coach. He joins a long history of coaches from Bruce arians to Romeo crennel to Raheem Morris to Gregg Williams. And even more standard to change coaches with a new gm. Hard to think of many coaches who transitioned from interim to head coach.

I don’t have an opinion on lovie or Caldwell or Lynn. I don’t think the issue is that they get fired too early as much as it is that they just don’t see opportunities. Which is strange for a league that’s majority black players.

Like it or not, more and more coaches are going to coach like Staley. The next step is going for two in first halves. Its coming. Luck is luck. Shit happens.

Since he’s white, who gives a ****, right?

Coaches of all colors have been treated unfairly throughout history.

Remember when David Toub was a HC candidate? What happened to that? It’s just understood that ST coordinators becoming a HC is kind of rare.

You know what else is kind of rare? A guy who’s specialty is RBs becoming a HC in the modern NFL. Aside from holding Andy Reid’s clipboard, that’s all he’s done at this level. Coach RBs.

How’d that workout for the Chargers with Anthony Lynn?

How’d Anthony Lynn do with the Lions this year his first time being a legit OC calling plays?

I honestly wouldn’t want EB to be the HC of the Chiefs. It has nothing to do with race either.
Not sure I understand the crusade to prove white coaches are treated just as unfairly. The reason black coaches getting fired is magnified is because their hirings are so rare these days. Which is odd in a league where 70% of the players are black. It’s not a little strange that there’s only one black HC? White coaches don’t get sympathy because there has been no shortage of opportunities for them. I don’t know the underlying reason behind this but understandably the optics are very bad.

Why does the league being 70% black necessarily mean the HCs should be overwhelming disproportionate as well?

Many of the best HCs in the NFL didn’t play in the NFL.

Andy Reid, BB, Shanahan, and McVay are perfect examples that on the field has nothing to do with coaching. They’re two different things.

To be fair, you are putting words in his mouth. He didn't say the HC should be disproportionately black because the league is 70% black.

He pointed out that it's weird in a league that's 70% black, that only 3% of the head coaches in the league are black.

The point I’m trying to make is why is that what people go to?

Why are we not saying that blacks are 13% of the population as opposed to saying 70% of the NFL.?

When somebody says that, it can be assumed that they think the coaches should be overwhelmingly disproportionate as well (even if it’s not 70%).

It’s just so odd how we look at things. Nobody bats an eye at a lack of white RBs, WRs, or DBs.

We don’t look at that 70% and assume it’s racism. We’re just honest and admit that blacks are better at football for whatever reason.

Maybe, for whatever reason, whites are better at coaching? I guess I’m not scared to ask that question because I’m Hispanic

It’s legitimate though. Where are all these great black HCs?

Maybe coaching is just something that white people are more likely to get great at because they’re more gravitated towards it as a career choice?

I feel like white people like to teach in general more than blacks. I’m not judging or pretending I have the answers. I just don’t see the reason in assuming it’s racism when it doesn’t hold up to logic.

If you make that claim then also make the claim that it's odd in a country where 13% of the population is black but 70% of the players are black. Both are equally ridiculous.

Also, if you are not sympathetic for someone losing a job because of the color of his skin then maybe you have a little racism issues to work out. It's not only the coach that loses his job but it's also the assistant coaches. These are all people that have to uproot their families and start over with another team if they can.

Other than EB, who can easily be explained, who is the black coach that isn’t getting an opportunity?

I’d love to hear the names of all these other guys since this is such a league wide issue and there are countless examples just like him.

It’s SO hard out here for a black coach that Byron Leftwitch won’t take the Jaguars job unless they fire their GM and hire his guy

How many first time HCs are making those demands?

Who said it has to be overwhelmingly disproportionate. 1 is bizarrely low. Ex players know the game and they know how locker rooms work. You’d expect a pipeline. Hard to believe there’s only 1 black coach given the makeup of the league that’s capable of running an nfl team

Yes it’s somehow lower despite all the efforts by the NFL themselves to correct it.

Do you honestly think they would highlight it as an issue and purposely make it worse?

Maybe, just maybe, it’s not about racism.

Again:

See, I can appreciate questions. I have a lot of them on this issue.

Like I’ve already said, maybe coaching is a profession that white people are more likely to gravitate towards. I think teaching in general is a very white profession, so it makes sense.

Maybe white people are better at it for whatever reason, just like blacks are better on the field?

Why is it being disproportionate only relevant when it’s disproportionately white? Why is it immediately due to racism if it’s disproportionately white?

Why does nobody talk about there being more black GM’s over the last couple of years? Why aren’t they hiring these black coaches that aren’t getting opportunities?

What teams specifically are racist? I feel like there are fans from every team that will say the NFL is racist, yet they would probably argue their team isn’t one of them.

Let’s get specific if we’re going to make those kind of accusations? Are the Chiefs a racist organization?

They’re obviously not practicing what they preach. The problem starts from the bottom. Almost all QBs coaches are white which usually leads to most OCs being white. And a lot of the list of OCs today is underwhelming. Hell, Ben mcadoo got an Oc job for crying out loud.

Plenty of qualified HC candidates out there….
Demeco Ryans (even if he backed out, how was he not high on everyone’s list)
Byron leftwich
Pep Hamilton
Jerod Mayo, Flores and Patrick graham if you’re going the bellichick tree route
Duce Staley

And if you’re going to rehire retreads like dan Quinn, McCarthy, mcdaniels then what’s the difference from a Caldwell, Raheem Morris, leslie frazier or todd Bowles.

Considering how underwhelming the coaching pool is this go around there is plenty there.

I don't think the issue is any kind of real mystery. Regardless of the industry, people tend to hire others who look and act like them. Considering the owners in the NFL are almost all white, it's not surprising that they have a bias towards hiring white coaches whether it's conscious or not.

I've been reading the comments on this thread and it's fascinating. Lots of good points and counterpoints.

However, Flores has a real good case here. Looking only specifically at the Miami coaching issue, and Belichek's goof, I think he'll succeed in court. The NFL would be good to settle.

But, each case must be taken on its own and the allegations specifically addressed. Otherwise the painting with a broad brush will tarnish innocent folks.
